CINCINNATI - A local father and son each face death penalty cases in connection to the deaths of two children. Hamilton
County Prosecutor Joseph T. Deters announced Thursday the indictment of
48-year-old Christopher Dangerfield in the death of 3-year-old Tyrese
Short. Dangerfield is charged with one count of aggravated murder, one
count of murder and one count of child endangering. Dangerfield
called paramedics to his home on Chapel Street on December 28, 2010,
reporting that his child had collapsed. Short was taken to Children's
Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Hamilton County
Coroner's Office ruled the death a homicide as a result of blunt force
trauma to the stomach. The autopsy revealed past injuries to the child
including a spiral fracture of the tibia, burns to the face and arm, and
healing rib fractures. If convicted of all charges, Dangerfield faces the possibility of the death penalty.
Christopher Dangerfield's son, 26-year-old Lionell Dangerfield, has already been
indicted for the death of his girlfriend's 3-month-old baby. Dangerfield
was watching Zhi Merah Binford in South Fairmount on May 30 while the
baby's mother was out. When the mother returned, Binford appeared to be
asleep and when her mother checked the following the morning, she was
dead. The Hamilton County Coroner's Office ruled the death a homicide as
a result of blunt force trauma. Dangerfield is charged with aggravated murder, murder and two counts of felonious assault.
If convicted of all the charges, he too faces the possibility of the death penalty. "It
is horrifying to think about how this young child lived and died. I am
disgusted that a father and son both face the death penalty for the
separate murders of two young children," said Deters.

CINCINNATI -- A grand jury indicted a Walnut Hills man Thursday in the death of his 3-year-old son.
Christopher Dangerfield could face the death penalty if convicted of each of three charges: aggravated murder, murder and child endangering.
An autopsy showed Dangerfield's son, Tyrese Short, died from a blunt force trauma to his stomach, and the boy also showed a previous spiral fracture of his tibia, burns to his face and arm and healing rib fractures.
The boy lived with the 48-year-old Dangerfield at a home on Chapel Street.
Dangerfield's attorney claimed during an arraignment hearing that the boy suffered his injuries in a bathtub fall.
Another son of Dangerfield's, Lionel Dangerfield, also faces the death penalty in the death of his own child, 3-month-old Zhi Merah Binford.
