A missing teen in McCook is believed
to be dead by authorities and her mother. Kailee Clapp, 14, is believed
to have been found by police in the Bartley Cemetery, which is 16 miles
east of Kailee's McCook home.
Well-liked, bubbly, and outgoing, is how friends and family describe
the freshman at McCook High School. Gathered in Kailee's front yard
Saturday morning, the community was silent from shock.
Friday morning, Kailee's mother and sister Karen went to wake her up
for school. Surprisingly, Kailee's wasn't in bed. Nora Clapp, her mom,
contacted police. McCook's Chief of Police Isaac Brown confirmed to NTV
that they went looking, unaware that she may have been in danger.
By afternoon, police arrested an unnamed 18-year-old male. Nora Clapp
said this was not Kailee's boyfriend. Late into the evening,
authorities recovered a teen body from the Bartley Cemetery.
Nora Clapp tells NTV, she wants justice for Kailee.

Posters note: Sadly, I'm moving this to murdered as LE and Kailee's mother don't seem to have any doubt.

No charges in disappearance of McCook teen
Sunday, January 23, 2011 12:00 pm
A person of interest arrested in the disappearance of a
14-year-old Nebraska girl remained in custody Sunday, although no
formal charges had been filed, McCook police said.
The 18-year-old man was arrested Friday afternoon, but police
have not said how he's connected to Kailee Clapp, who was reported
missing from her home in McCook at about 7 a.m. Friday. The man's
name has not been released.
A body was found late Friday in a field near Bartley, about 15
miles east of McCook in south-central Nebraska. It has not yet been
identified, but investigators said Saturday that they believe it is
Clapp. Authorities haven't released information about the cause of
death, and police said Sunday there was no update in the
investigation.
The girl's mother, Nora Clapp, said she last saw her daughter,
the youngest of three children, at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday as she
was getting ready for bed. Her 18-year-old sister saw her about an
hour later, the mother said.
Nora Clapp said she alerted police just after 7 a.m. Friday when
she realized her daughter was missing but didn't think she was in
danger. But by Friday afternoon, police said, officers had
discovered information that her life could be in jeopardy. Police
didn't elaborate. The 18-year-old was arrested about the same time
Friday. The body was found late Friday evening.

Officials considered issuing an Amber Alert for Kailee Clapp, but
didn't have the time or information that would have made it appropriate,
according to the McCook Police Chief. An Amber Alert couldn't be issued because the case lacked key triggers, Police Chief Ike Brown said.."One of the first items discussed [this weekend] was the AMBER Alert,"
Brown said, "but we did not have all the information required to issue
one until we no longer needed it. We need a suspect, description of
vehicle, and direction of travel on top of the other requirements [to
activate the Amber Alert]. It happened so close together in time.""The Amber Alert program is a voluntary partnership between
law-enforcement agencies, broadcasters, transportation agencies, and the
wireless industry, to activate an urgent bulletin in the most serious
child-abduction cases. The goal of an Amber Alert is to "instantly galvanize the entire
community to assist in the search for and the safe recovery of the
child." according to www.amberalert.gov.Amber Alert plans are different by state and in some areas by counties
and cities. There are 34 local plans in eight states, 27 regional plans
spanning eight states, and all 50 states plus Puerto Rico and the U.S.
Virgin Islands have statewide plans that are able to be enacted.Nebraska has a single-system that spans the entire state. The Nebraska
Amber Plan requires law enforcement to meet specific guidelines in order
to issue an alert for a child abduction:* the person is 17 years old or younger* police have reason to believe the child is in danger of serious bodily harm or death* there is sufficient information available concerning the suspected abductor that the public can respond* the notifying law enforcement agency has participated in AMBER training for purposes of issuing AMBER Alerts.* The plan is not intended for use in runaway or child custody situations. If the guidelines are met, the local law enforcement agency contacts the
Nebraska State Patrol to request the activation of the Amber Plan. The NSP verifies that the guidelines have been met then activates the
system through the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications, which is
then broadcasted over the State Emergency Alert System.Once the initial EAS broadcast has occurred, the information is sent to
all radio and television stations in Nebraska, and participating
stations will then re-broadcast the information at regular intervals
until the alert is canceled.

Re: KAILEE NICOLE CLAPP -14yo- McCook (Hwy 83 nr KS) NE
On Tuesday night, a community came together to support a grieving
family. A crowd of more than 2,000 people turned out in Norris Park in
McCook to remember the life of local 14-year-old Kailee Clapp, who is
missing and believed dead after a body was recovered in nearby Bartley on Friday.
Her mother, Nora Clapp, called the turnout for Tuesday's candlelight vigil "awesome."
"It's overwhelming," she said.
Nora has lived in McCook for the last 20 years, and Kailee's father,
Kelly Clapp, is a McCook native. The community's support wasn't a
surprise for Nora, and she is grateful.
"I thank them for their support and love for my daughter," she said. "Kailee touched a lot of lives."
Nora also has praise for the McCook police department. She said they have done a lot for her family.
"They never let up for a minute," she said. "I'm speechless for what they did for me and my family."
A press release McCook police sent to the Telegraph on Tuesday
reported a body "tentatively identified as Kailee Clapp" was being
examined by a coroner in Omaha.
"I don't even know where to begin to thank everyone for everything
they did while Kailee was missing," Nora posted to Facebook on Sunday.
"This isn't the outcome I know everyone was praying for but sometimes
God has a different plan ... makes me realize we are not in control."
While police will not fully confirm the body is that of Kailee,
Nora said Tuesday she is sure it is her daughter's.
Reactions online have ranged from sorrow to anger. On Facebook, at
least one page was set up in memory of Kailee, and another page was set
up calling for a McCook 18-year-old, Stathis Kirkpatrick, to "get life"
for her death. Kirkpatrick is being held by authorities on $1,000,000
bail in connection to the case.
Posts on the page "R.I.P. Kailee Nicole Clapp" ranged from those who
know the teen personally to those far distanced from her passing.
"Beautiful angel, you are not my child and I do not know you," Becky
Garivay from Minnesota posted. "You are in gods arms now and there will
be no more sadness or pain."
Another post expresses how much Kailee was loved by her friends.
"I love you so much Kailee," Kaitlyn Campbell posted. "You didn't
deserve to go so soon. You were like a little sister to me."
Police have not released charges for Kirkpatrick, but the page on
Facebook calls for him to be given a tough sentence. The page, "Stathis
Kirkpatrick Took Life - Give Him Life" has some calling for the death
penalty. However, not everyone agrees.
"Why make it easy on him... he needs to be faced with what he did
every day of his miserable pathetic life," Candy Baumgartner posted. "He
needs to live with what he did."
Kailee was reported missing by her mother Friday morning, and a body
was found that evening near the small town of Bartley. Authorities have
stated that more information cannot be made available because its
release would interfere in the investigation. It reported further
information would be available as the investigation progressed. Nebraska
State Patrol and Federal law enforcement are assisting in the investigation.
Kirkpatrick will be arraigned in Red Willow County Court on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 11:30 a.m.

every day of his miserable pathetic life," Candy Baumgartner posted. "He
needs to live with what he did."

Kirkpatrick Heading to Court in Teen Death
Updated: Jan 27, 2011 02:48 PM
An 18-year-old man is heading to court Thursday morning for his involvement
in the case of Kailee Clapp, a 14-year-old from McCook who went missing
on Friday morning and is now believed to be dead.
The suspect 18-year old Stathis Kirkpatrick is being held on
one-million dollars bail in the McCook jail. At Thursday's arraignment,
Kirkpatrick's formal charges will be read aloud and the community will
finally know how much of a role he played in the disappearance and
possible death of Kailee.
On Friday after full morning search for Kailee Clapp, police made the
arrest of Kirkpatrick. But prior to that, they say they didn't know she'd even been in danger.
"The initial investigation was that of a missing person," said Police Chief Isaac Brown.
Shortly after Kirkpatrick's arrest, a body was found 16 miles east of
Kailee's McCook home, near the Bartley cemetery. Authorities awaiting
an autopsy report have tentatively identified the body as that of Kailee Clapp.
Kirkpatrick is described by police as an unemployed Bartley resident.
Now he's heading to Red Willow County Court for his arraignment.
Already, the public is condemning Kirkpatrick using online forums:
Facebook groups like "Stathis Kirkpatrick Took a Life; Give Him Life."
But until court Thursday morning, his charges aren't being made public.
