Police are searching for two Chinese girls that were last seen at
the Quality Inn, located at 10 Polito Ave., at approximately 1:20 a.m.
this morning, Feb. 1 by members of their Chinese tour group who is
staying at the hotel. The girls are only described as 13 and 15 years
old and do not speak English. They were reported missing about an hour after disappearing.
"We're working on it now. There is nothing to indicate foul play
and they may have left on their own volition," said Police Chief James
O'Connor. "There are some things regarding the investigation that I
can't really speak about at this time."
O'Connor said the investigation has not led police to issue an
Amber Alert as information obtained so far does not fit the criteria of the Amber Alert system.
"We're talking to the Chinese consulate and other law enforcement agencies," said O'Connor.

Police are searching for two teenagers from China who walked away from a
hotel they were staying at with a group of tourists early Tuesday
morning, authorities said.

Police are looking for two missing teens from China, Sifeng Wu,
13, left, and Jiaqian Liu, 15, who walked away from a hotel they were
staying at with a group of tourists early Tuesday morning, authorities
said.

The girls, ages 13 and 15, walked off from the Quality Inn
shortly after 1 a.m., said Police Chief James O’Connor. The girls were
with a group of mostly teenaged tourists from China.

nvestigators are trying to locate the girls but do not believe
any foul play was involved. The girls unpacked their suitcases and
packed their clothes in backpacks before leaving, O’Connor said.

“There’s nothing to indicate they were abducted,” he said.

UPDATE: Missing Chinese girls presumed safe

Police say that two Chinese girls that were reported missing on Feb. 1 from a Lyndhurst hotel left of their own volition and are presumed safe. The girls were visiting from China with a Chinese tour group and were staying at the Quality Inn, located at 10 Polito Ave., when tour group leaders reported them missing at approximately 1:20 a.m. Tuesday. Police said at least one girl has called her parents in China.

"From speaking to sources close to the family, it is my understanding there has been a conversation with one of the girls' parents and the parents are not showing much concern. They are aware that everything is okay with their daughter," said Police Chief James O'Connor. "We know that they [the girls] left on their own volition. It appears that this was planned."
O'Connor said communication with his department and family members of the girls back in China has been a challenge and said their lack of willingness to provide information on the two girls' whereabouts is stymieing the missing persons' investigation.
One girl, Sifeng Wu, 13, is described as 5'3", 115 pounds with black hair and dark brown eyes. The other, Jiaqian Liu, 15, is described as 5'0", 125 pounds, with dark brown eyes and black hair. They were reported missing about an hour after disappearing by a member of their tour group that was staying at the hotel. O'Connor said the girls transferred clothing from a suitcase to a backpack prior to leaving the hotel. They did leave behind their passports, which have been used to create missing persons flyers. The tour group went back to China on Feb. 2, according to O'Connor.
"We're talking to the Chinese consulate and other law enforcement agencies," said O'Connor, about the ongoing investigation.
