SEATH TYLER JACKSON - 15 yo - Summerfield (NW of Orlando) FL
Poster's Note: This is a particularly gruesome story with graphic details.
I do not believe this was random street crime.
Lured to a home by a girl's text message, a 15-year-old central Florida boy was beaten,
shot and burned to death by a group of teenagers and young adults,
police said on Wednesday.
Five people ranging from ages 15 to 20 have been arrested on
first-degree murder charges in connection
with the death of Seath Tyler Jackson, whose parents reported him
missing on Monday. The only motive identified by investigators so far is that the alleged shooter,
20-year-old Michael Bargo, had spoken of his hatred for the victim, a
Marion County Sheriff's Office report said.Statements given by the defendants
helped authorities piece together what they say happened. Two
girls, 18-year-old Charlie Kay Ely and 15-year-old Amber Wright, helped
lure Jackson to a home in Summerfield, northwest of Orlando, on Sunday,
according to the arrest affidavit.Three
young men then beat and shot Jackson, put him in a bathtub and tried to
break his kneecaps so he could be folded and stuffed in a sleeping bag,
the report states.When they
noticed Jackson was still alive, Bargo shot him again and they threw his
body in the sleeping bag into a fire pit that had been lit before
Jackson arrived, police said.On
Tuesday, 16-year-old Kyle Hooper told his mother he had witnessed
Jackson's murder, the report states. Hooper told investigators the house
was cleaned with bleach and Jackson's remains were shoveled from the
fire pit, placed in paint cans and tossed in a dumpster.
Hooper, Ely, Wright and 20-year-old Justin Soto admitted their roles in the murder,
according to the affidavit.Authorities caught Bargo on Wednesday
in the town of Starke, about an hour and 30 minutes north of the crime scene.
According to a news release, Bargo hitched a ride with James Haven, 37, who was
arrested on a charge of accessory after-the-fact to first-degree murder.
Investigators said Haven knew of the deadly plot and helped hide the victim's remains in 5-gallon paint cans.

It wasn't random. It was premeditated and planned. The leader hated the boy.
How can people so young be so evil?

Six Arrested In Brutal Murder
A 15-year-old was beaten, shot and burned.
The Marion County Sheriff's Department has arrested six people they say plotted and carried out a brutal murder of a 15-year-old.
Seth Jackson was called to a home by a text message he thought was from an 18-year-old girl he knew.
Investigators say six people were at the home waiting for him when he arrived. The group beat Jackson and shot him a number of times.
He survived the initial attack and tried to get away and that's when investigators say the suspects dragged him back inside and killed him. They then set his body on fire and disposed of the remains by taking them from the home in buckets.
The arrested suspects range in age from 15 to 37.

A memorial service for Seath Tyler Jackson, who was allegedly killed
last week by a group of teenagers, was held Saturday afternoon at the
First Baptist Church in Summerfield. Pictures: Six arrested in brutal murder of Fla. boy Those
who knew Jackson were still in shock, but gathered for a memorial
service to remember the times and memories they shared with him. A woman told CBS affiliate WKMG that she's disappointed that some of her 16-year-old daughter's friends could be accused of such a horrific crime. "It's
very heartbreaking," the woman told the station. "I just hope that the
people in jail can find the lord and forgiveness," said Sapp. Outside
the church, about 60 miles northwest of Orlando, many kids wore
t-shirts with the area code 352 to show solidarity in the community. According to WKMG, six people, including a 15-year-old girl and three other teens, were arrested Tuesday in the killing. Detectives said Seath was attacked and shot Sunday after being lured to a home in Summerfield via text message.
There,
authorities said, he was fatally beaten and shot. Then, Seath's body
was stuffed into a sleeping bag and burned, and the remains were put in
paint buckets and dumped at a remote lime rock pit, authorities allege. Michael
Bargo, the alleged ringleader in the murder, faced a judge on Thursday
and was warned that he could be sentenced to death. Investigators,
as well as family and friends, said Bargo was dating Seath's
ex-girlfriend and had gotten into a fight with him several weeks ago,
WKMG reported.

Suspects Plea "Not Guilty" in Seath Jackson Murder Trial
by Natalia Martinez

Tuesday the six suspects in the grisly murder of 15-year-old Seath Jackson plead "Not Guilty."
Michael Bargo, 19, Justin Soto, 20, and two juveniles, Kyle Hooper, 16, and Amber Wright, 15, filed a written waiver of arraignment and did not have to appear in court Tuesday. Charlie Ely, 18, appeared before a judge Monday.
Soto, Hooper, Wright, and Ely are charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder. Bargo is charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder with a Firearm. A sixth person, 37-year-old James Havens is charged with Accessory After the Fact.
The attorney representing Michael Bargo, Charles R. Holloman told TV20 he must first see the evidence in the case before proceeding.
"Did he make a statement, did he not make a statement?," Holloman inquired of Bargo. "When the other people made a statement where they coerced into it? Were they threatened? Was there some sort of benefit? Did someone have a hidden agenda here? Was there a possible self-defense claim? You don't know any of that."
Detectives say 15 year-old Seath Jackson was lured into a Summerfield home April 17th where he was shot and killed. His body burned in a fire pit and discarded.

Re: SEATH TYLER JACKSON - 15 yo - Summerfield (NW of Orlando) FL
This reminds me so much of the Shanda Sharer murder, the 12 yr old killed by four teen girls. In that case it was also a horrified-at-what-they'd-done 15 yr old that confessed. Well now we'll see if the sentencing guidelines have changed in two decades.
It is impossible to understand how an adult can beat a defenseless child to death or rape an infant, but how does a child grow up to have so much sick hate that they can do something as heinous as the brutal baiting and murder of this dear boy?
You can see the similarities in the case here:

I recently watched a show about this hidious murder. The woman who caused it all and was never charged nor arrested was not sorry, showed no remorse, nothing for the dead child. Instead she was incensed, blaming the dead girl and talking only about how it affected her. I wanted to smack her, well more than that.ladibug wrote:This reminds me so much of the Shanda Sharer murder, the 12 yr old killed by four teen girls. Why wasn't she charged with sexual abuse of a 12 year old little girl? Perhaps had she spend a decade in prison she would have a better grasp on the horrible thing she had done. What an evil, evil woman.
If I was the parent of the murdered girl I would most likely try to do what the justice system should have done, and didn't.
This is horrifying beyond belief.
There is extensive coverage of this case if anyone should care to read it. I couldn't.

Florida laws are not that lenient on murderers. They are going for life for some of the teens and death for some of them.
They will all be tried as adults. I don't think any of them will be walking around free for at least 25 years.
I'm shocked at the lenience shown to the four murderers of Shanda, and the complete lack of prosecution or any repercussions to the woman ultimately responsible for her death.

State seeks death penalty for murder suspect

The state announced its plan to seek the death penalty against
Michael Bargo, 19, left, the alleged gunman in the April, 2011 beating,
shooting death and burning of Belleview teen Seath Jackson, Wednesday
afternoon, July 6, 2011 at the Marion County Judicial Center in Ocala,
FL. Bargo talks with his defense attorney, Charles Holloman, right,
during the hearing.
Last Modified: Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 4:29 p.m.
The State Attorney’s Office announced in court Wednesday it intends
to seek the death penalty against Michael Bargo Jr., the 19-year-old
man accused of shooting and killing Seath Jackson in April.
Bargo is one of five
young adults who were indicted for first-degree murder in early May, but
only one of two currently eligible to face the death penalty if found
guilty as charged.
One other suspect, Justin E. Soto, 20, faces the possibility of a death
penalty prosecution, but Assistant State Attorney Amy Berndt said that
decision is still pending.
Jackson, 15, was brutally beaten and shot in a Summerfield home before his body
was tossed into a burn pit and his remains stuffed into paint cans,
authorities allege. Four co-defendants, including two juveniles, have
given statements to authorities revealing a conspiracy to lure the
Belleview teen to the house, located in a secluded area.
The suspects identified Bargo as the person who shot Jackson with a
.22-caliber gun, although authorities allege the victim was badly
beaten, and restrained, with the help of others.
Bargo, who sat in court beside his attorney, Charles Holloman, during
Wednesday’s brief status conference, is the only person charged in
connection with the case who hasn’t spoken.
“Just because (the state) filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty
does not automatically mean it will be tried as a death case,” Holloman
said Wednesday, referring to the number of possibilities and
developments that could emerge between now and trial.
The two-month time lapse separating the murder indictments and the state’s announcement of its
intention to seek the death penalty for Bargo is not indicative of any unforeseen hurdles, prosecutors pointed out.
“The fact (the decision) took us this long means it is not something we just
jump to,” said 5th Circuit Chief Assistant State Attorney Ric Ridgway.
“Every case is different, every defendant is different. Sometimes the
mitigators and aggravators are obvious, other times they take a little
longer to develop.”
All of the suspects, including a 37-year-old man charged with accessory after
the fact to first-degree murder, have pleaded not guilty.

Defendant in Seath murder wants trial moved
Charlie Kay Ely’s attorney said the case has received too much negative publicity

Charlie Ely listens as her attorney, Jonathan Bull, argues for
closure of all proceedings involving her at the Marion County Judicial
Center in Ocala on May 23. Her attorney is now asking to move her trial
outside of the county.

The attorney for Charlie Kay Ely, one of five people charged with
the gruesome murder of a 15-year-old boy, said in court Wednesday that
he will ask the judge to move his client’s trial outside of Marion
County.
Attorney Jonathan Bull told Circuit Judge David Eddy he would soon formally file the request.
He later told reporters there was too much negative publicity about the case in the local media.
“It (is) an emotional case and quite frankly the gruesome nature of the
crime,” Bull said. He said Orlando would potentially be a good location
because of the city’s recent distraction by the Casey Anthony trial.
Ely’s status conference was one of three such hearings Wednesday before Eddy.
Defense lawyers and prosecutors conferred about sharing evidence and
scheduled witness depositions.
The other hearings were for co-defendants Michael Shane Bargo, 19, and Kyle Hooper, 17.
All three are charged with first-degree murder.
Prosecutors contend that in April, Ely, Hooper, Bargo and two other co-defendants —
Justin Soto, 20 and Amber Wright, 15 — plotted to lure Wright’s former
boyfriend, Seath Jackson, 15, to Ely’s home in Summerfield.
Following interviews with some of the co-defendants, Marion County sheriff’s
investigators said that when Seath arrived at Ely’s home, Hooper and
Soto struck the boy in the head.
The attack escalated from there, investigators said. Investigators said
that based on co-defendant interviews, Bargo shot Jackson several times
during the beating.
Jackson’s body was carried into the backyard and burned in a fire pit, the reports said.
His remains were shoveled into several 5-gallon paint buckets and thrown into a water-filled limerock pit.
Ely told investigators that as soon as Jackson entered the house she ran and stayed in a back bedroom.
All five accused of the murder have pleaded not guilty.
Of the five, only Ely is asking for a speedy trial. Jury selection is slated for Sept. 19.
Bull said he will be prepared for trial.
“We do have enough to present a very well (prepared) defense for my client,” he said Wednesday.
He described Ely as having “a deep-seated fear of Bargo” and was forced to participate.
Bull
said the strategic advantage of pushing for an early trial is that it
takes time away from prosecutors from finding additional witnesses and
evidence against his client. It also reduces the time for prosecutors to
strike bargains with the other co-defendants to testify against Ely in
exchange for lesser charges and potential sentences.
Hooper’s lawyer, David Mengers, said after his client’s status conference that
his client warned Seath to get out of the house before the shooting began.
“He (Hooper) did not commit murder, nor did he want a murder to take place,” Mengers
said. “All witnesses are unanimous that Kyle Hooper did not kill the gentleman.”
Eddy on Wednesday told Bull and Bargo’s lawyer, Charles Holloman, and
prosecutors to be well underway with depositions by November. Another
status conference will be scheduled then.
Assistant state attorneys Amy Berndt and Robin Arnold on Wednesday also obtained a
genetic DNA sample from Bargo by way of a swab from inside his cheek.
Berndt said the DNA will be used to compare to DNA obtained at the crime scene.
Holloman also received from prosecutors copies of letters co-defendants have written friends and family since their arrests.
Holloman said there were at least 100 letters, but thus far, none written by Bargo suggests he’s guilty of Seath’s murder.
