"John Doe" - 5 yo/ Accused: Joseph Testa - Revere MA

A 5-year-old boy is in stable condition at Massachusetts General Hospital after being found with a head injury on a Revere sidewalk this morning, and his mother's boyfriend is in custody on charges that he assaulted the child, authorities said.

The boy was found unresponsive outside an apartment at 595 Revere Beach Parkway, State Police said.

Joseph Testa, 28, of Revere, the boyfriend of the child's mother, told police at the scene he was the babysitter, according to authorities. He was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a child causing serious bodily injury, wantonly or recklessly permitting bodily injury to a child, and child endangerment, according the office of Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.

Testa is to be arraigned Monday in Chelsea District Court.

Conley's spokesman, Jake Wark, declined to release further details about the boy's injuries, except to say that they were "not consistent with an accident."
