CNN) -- The body of a missing Maine woman was discovered in a New Hampshire pond Wednesday and police are treating the death as suspicious.
Krista Dittmeyer, 20, was found near Cranmore Mountain, New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said.
She was reported missing Saturday morning after a passerby found her car running and her 14-month-old daughter in the back seat. The child was unharmed, police said, but the car door was open and the hazard lights were blinking.
New Hampshire police, fire and rescue personnel worked with New Hampshire Fish and Game staffers and police dogs to search the area. The FBI in New Hampshire also joined the investigation Tuesday.
Earlier in the week, officials drained another pond in the area but focused Wednesday on Duck Pond, which is used for snowmaking at Cranmore Mountain.
Police are urging anybody with information about Dittmeyer's whereabouts from Friday evening until Saturday to contact the Conway Police department of New Hampshire State Police.

Krista Dittmeyer's family releases statement after body found in N.H. pond
By Edecio Martinez
(CBS/WBZ) CONWAY, N.H. - The family of missing Maine mother Krista Dittmeyer released a statement after police announced Wednesday that they recovered Dittmeyer's body in a pond not far from where her car was found abandoned last week at a ski area with her toddler inside.
Dittmeyer's family in the statement said they are "devastated but [want] to thank everyone for their support and [request] to be left alone at this time."
The 20-year-old Portland, Maine mother's body was found by divers in a retaining pond about a quarter-mile from where her car was found idling Saturday in the parking lot of Cranmore Mountain ski area in Conway, a town of 10,000 people.
Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said an autopsy would be done Thursday to determine the cause of Dittmeyer's death. She described the death as "suspicious," but she would not elaborate or comment on possible suspects.
A crime scene unit was seen at the pond earlier Wednesday, but police pushed media back from the area, reports CBS station WBZ.
Officers began draining ponds in the area Monday, but said at the time they had no reason to believe Dittmeyer was in one. They claimed they were removing the water to rule out any possibilities.
The father of Dittmeyer's child is serving time in prison on an unrelated drug charge.
According to WBZ, police say Dittmeyer, who lives and works in Portland and has ties to Bridgton, Maine, last talked to family members at about 8 p.m. Friday by phone.

Autopsy Results Week Away In Mom's Death
Woman Found Dead In New Hampshire Pond
POSTED: 11:58 am EDT April 28, 2011
UPDATED: 5:20 pm EDT April 28, 2011
BOSTON -- An autopsy was conducted Thursday on the body of a Maine mother found dead in a pond in New Hampshire.
The body of Krista Dittmeyer, 20, was pulled from a pond near Cranmore Mountain ski resort Wednesday. Investigators are looking for clues near the pond, and police tape still blocks access to much of the ski area.
"The cause and the manner of death remain pending due to the toxicology results having to be returned," Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said. "The case remains active and ongoing."
Young said it could take up to eight weeks for the results to be made public. She urged anyone with information to call police.
Dittmeyer was found in what is known as Duck Pond, and officials are treating the case as a "suspicious death."
Her body was taken to the medical examiner in Concord, N.H., as investigators piece together the cause of her death.
On Saturday, her car was found running with a door open, and hazard lights flashing in a parking lot at the ski area, about 500 yards from the pond. Her 14-month-old daughter was unharmed in the back seat.
"The family is devastated. Nobody's daughter should be murdered," family friend Kathy Pratt said.
Pratt asked that Dittmeyer be remembered "as a wonderful loving mother who, I am sure, made sure her daughter was safe right until the end."
Kyle Acker, the girl's father and Dittmeyer's boyfriend, is in prison in Maine.
Two men, including Acker's brother, were stopped by police in the woods near the ski resort the day before her body was found, according to the Conway Daily Sun.
Richard Acker and Corey Poland were stopped at about 11:52 p.m. Tuesday. Poland was arrested and charged with willful concealment, the newspaper reported.
Police said the men told them they were Dittmeyer's friends and were in the area to look for her. They also said they found a flip-flop Dittmeyer was reportedly wearing when she disappeared last week. They told police they left the shoe where they found it, the Daily Sun reported.
Dittmeyer is originally from Bridgton, Maine, and was living in Portland, where she worked as a waitress. Residents in Bridgton plan to hold a candlelight vigil Thursday night to show their support for the family.

Re: KRISTA DITTMEYER/ Murdered - 20 yo - Conway NH
Krista Dittmeyer, the missing 20-year-old
single mother whose body was found Wednesday in a New Hampshire pond,
was remembered as a young woman whose love for children made her a
sought-after baby sitter in the small Maine town where she grew up.
"She absolutely loved children," family
friend Sandy Pasquale said in an interview with FoxNews.com. "Everyone
wanted her as a baby sitter."
Now, friends and family are planning a funeral for Dittmeyer,
whose death is being called "suspicious" by authorities.
Dittmeyer, a 2008 graduate of Lake Region
High School who grew up in Bridgton, Maine, and lived in Portland, was
last seen alive Friday. Authorities launched a search for the woman
after her car was found the next day in a Conway, N.H., parking lot with
its engine still running and her baby daughter inside.
Prosecutors from the New Hampshire attorney
general's office announced Wednesday that divers pulled Dittmeyer's body
from Duck Pond, about a quarter-mile from where her black Nissan Sentra
was found idling in the parking lot of Cranmore Mountain ski area.
Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young
called the woman's death "suspicious" on Thursday and said prosecutors
are waiting for autopsy results from the medical examiner in Concord.
The grim announcement stunned family and
friends in Bridgton who say they remember Dittmeyer as a "lovable girl"
who "always stood on her own two feet."
Pasquale said she last saw Dittmeyer four
months ago when she stopped into the Morning Glory restaurant in
Bridgton where the young woman worked as a waitress.
"She worked to support herself as long as I
can remember," said Pasquale, whose daughter grew up with Dittmeyer.
"She was a beautiful young girl ... the apple of my eye."
Dittmeyer had been living with her
boyfriend, 26-year-old Kyle Acker, when he was arrested on drug charges
last June, the Portland Press Herald reports.
Police had reportedly received a tip from
neighbors, saying several people were seen coming and going from the
apartment, and that is was believed Acker may be selling drugs.
When officers found cocaine, marijuana and a
9-mm handgun at the home, Acker allegedly told police he had been
selling drugs for six months since being released from jail over
nonpayment of child support, according to the newspaper.
Friends interviewed by FoxNews.com knew
little about Acker, who is currently serving time for the drug
conviction in a Maine jail, according to local press accounts.
"I wouldn't know him if he stood in front of me," said Pasquale. "I don't even know his name."
Investigators have said they do not believe Dittmeyer left her car willingly.
The Conway Daily Sun reports that Acker's
brother and another man were questioned by police in the woods around
Cranmore late Tuesday night.
Richard Acker, 28, and Corey Poland, 25, of
Portland, were reportedly stopped by authorities just before midnight.
Poland was arrested on a charge of willful concealment, but Acker was
not, according to the newspaper.
The two men allegedly told a Conway
patrolman they knew Dittmeyer and were out searching for her, the
newspaper reports. They also allegedly told the officer they found a
flip-flop that may belong to her but left it where they found it in the woods.
Conway Police Lt. Christopher Perley said
Tuesday that police had searched two vehicles -- one being Dittmeyer's
-- for clues in the case. He would not elaborate on the second vehicle investigated.
A police source also told FoxNews.com that
blood was discovered in Dittmeyer's vehicle, but Perley would not
confirm the report, saying the Conway Police Department "does not
comment on specific pieces of evidence." All inquiries in the
investigation are now directed to the attorney general's office.
Perley said police don't know why Dittmeyer
drove to Conway, but noted that the young woman had a "number of social contacts" in the area.
Residents in Bridgton, meanwhile, are
planning a candlelight gathering Thursday evening at the Stevens Brook
Elementary School as a show of support for the family.

Maine mother attacked with rubber mallet in drug and money rip-off, authorities allege
By John R. Ellement
Globe Staff / May 11, 2011
OSSIPEE, NH -- One of three men charged in the death of Krista Dittmeyer, the young mother who disappeared from a New Hampshire ski area parking lot, called himself her protector – even as he was plotting her death, a prosecutor said today.
Michael Petelis, 28, of Ossipee, appeared in district court here today where he was ordered held on $250,000 cash bail. Petelis, who has a long criminal history, is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
Petelis allegedly plotted with two other men to rob Dittmeyer of drugs and money, a crime that ended with the murder of the 20-year-old Portland, Maine woman, according to New Hampshire Assistant Attorney General Jane Young. The prosecutor said Petelis told Dittmeyer he would be “her protector while her boyfriend was in jail.’’
“Instead of protecting her … what he was doing was setting up her final demise,’’ Young said.
Anthony Papile, 28, of Ossipee, has been charged with second-degree murder. Trevor Ferguson, 23, of Tamworth, N.H., also faces charges of conspiracy to commit robbery.
LaNell Shackley of Bridgton, Maine, Dittmeyer's mother, was in the courtroom today when the three men made individual appearances. Dittmeyer’s daughter, Aliyah, is in Shackley's care.
In court papers filed today, prosecutors said the three men plotted to rob Dittmeyer of drugs and money by luring her to Petelis’s Ossipee residence on April 22. Around 9:43 p.m., Petelis allegedly texted Dittmeyer, telling her to let him know in advance of her arrival time, ostensibly because he had company.
Instead, according to court records, when Dittmeyer arrived at Petelis’ apartment, Papile came up from behind and struck her on the head with a rubber club. Papile and Petelis then allegedly bound Dittmeyer with duct tape before Papile put her into the trunk of her car.
Later that night or sometime in the early hours of April 23, prosecutors allege in court papers, Papile drove Dittmeyer’s car to the parking lot of the Cranmore Mountain ski area in Conway where he dumped her body into a snow-making pond.
Ferguson, allegedly in return for a share of the drugs and money stolen from Dittmeyer, picked up Papile in the parking lot and drove him home.
Papile also allegedly later shared a portion of drugs and money with Petelis.
The court papers do not specify how much money or what kind of drugs were stolen from Dittmeyer.
The court papers also do not describe what happened to Dittmeyer’s child while she was being killed. The 14-month-old child was found unharmed in Dittmyer's car in the early morning hours of April 23 in the ski area parking lot.
Dittmeyer's body was found April 27 in a pond about a quarter-mile from the where her car was abandoned.
Prosecutors said the next day that an autopsy had been completed but how Dittmeyer died had not been determined. The cause and manner of death were “pending” until toxicology test results were returned, prosecutors said.
Both Papile and Petelis have criminal records, New Hampshire state officials said.
LaNell Shackley of Bridgton, Maine, Dittmeyer's mother, was in the courtroom today when the three men made individual appearances. Dittmeyer’s daughter, Aliyah, is in Shackley's care.
All three defendants are due back in court on May 19.
More than 300 people attended Dittmeyer’s funeral last week at Lake Region High School in Naples, Maine, where she graduated in 2008. She moved to Portland the same year.
Attendees said the single mother was known as being strong-willed, feisty, independent, and athletic.

Inmate allegedly roughs up man arrested in connection with Dittmeyer murder
OSSIPEE — A Carroll County Jail inmate has been indicted for allegedly beating up a man who was arrested in connection with the murder of Krista Dittmeyer.
Ombleo Keilson Daniels, 41, now of Strafford County Jail in Dover, was indicted by a Carroll County Superior Court Grand Jury on a charge of assault by a prisoner for allegedly attacking Michael Petelis. Prosecutors allege that Daniels "repeatedly punched and hit Petelis about the head, face and body" on May 26.
Daniels will be arraigned on Aug. 8.
County corrections department superintendent Jason Johnson couldn't comment on the motive behind the beating.
