AMBER Alert issued for 2-year-old boy

PALM SPRINGS - A woman allegedly abducted her 2-year-old son at knifepoint in Palm Springs today, prompting a statewide child abduction alert.

The child, Johnny Jacob Gonzalez, was taken around 11:30 a.m. from 2611 Linden Way, authorities said.

According to the abduction alert, the boy was allegedly taken by his mother, Brandi Marie Gonzalez, 22, who was last seen driving a white, four-door 2000 Mitsubishi Galant with California license plate 6GUE552.

Police said the woman has joint custody of the child.

The boy, who has tightly shaved brown hair and brown eyes, was wearing a blue T-shirt, blue shorts and white athletic shoes, authorities said.

Anyone with information about the woman or the boy was asked to call Palm Springs police at (760) 327-1441.

PALM SPRINGS - A woman was located by police two hours after she
abducted her 2-year-old son at knifepoint in Palm Springs, police said.

The woman was located by Cathedral City police in that
city and Palm Springs investigators were en route to another location
to check on the child, Palm Springs police Officer Rhonda Long said.
"From the call, it says the child is OK, but we won't know until we see him and touch him," she said.

Jacob Gonzalez was taken around 11:30 a.m. from 2611 Linden Way,
authorities said, prompting a statewide missing-child alert.
The mother, Brandi Marie Gonzalez, 22, apparently was
involved in a dispute with the child's father at his home and
threatened him, then drove off with the child while in possession of a
knife, Long said.
"She never threatened the child; she threatened the husband," Long said.

Police
said the woman and the father -- the two are married but living apart
-- have joint custody of the child, and today was her day to have
custody, Long said.
