Kettering father accused of abusing his baby

KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) - A Kettering man was arrested after police said he abused his baby so severely that the child is now fighting to recover at Dayton Children's Hospital.

Medics were called to an apartment building in the 1200 block of Imperial Blvd. May 8 after someone called 911 to report that the baby was having trouble breathing. Soon after, the medics called for police. They said an interview with the father, Marcus Merrick, led to his arrest.

"I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty specifics of what he told our detectives. But he did admit that he did take some action, that he did get angry and took it out on the child," said Ptl. Michael Burke.

The 13 week old infant is now in intensive care. Merrick is charged with child endangering and felonious assault.
