JULYSSA CHAVEZ - 5 Months (2009) - Whaeton/Aurora IL

An Aurora man has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for the murder two years ago of his 5-month-old daughter.
Joel Chavez was found guilty in March of first-degree
murder in the death of Julyssa Chavez on Jan. 12, 2009. Prosecutors say
Chavez was angry the child refused her bottle and was crying.
Prosecutors say the girl died of blunt force trauma.
During trial, defense attorney Steven Muslin argued the
child was dropped on a bed by Chavez and went limp after her head hit a
wall.
In finding Chavez guilty, DuPage County Circuit Judge
George Bakalis said Chavez's acts were without justification and done
with a strong probability of death. Bakalis sentenced Chavez on Monday
Chavez will be required to serve his entire sentence.
