NEW ZEALAND • Chris and Cru KAHUI - 3 Months/Twins (2006) - Auckland

Post by TomTerrific0420 on Fri Jun 17, 2011 9:55 am

Five years on from New Zealand's most notorious unsolved child
killings, anti-child abuse advocates say lessons have been learned - but
more needs to be done. It is exactly five years today since
three-month-old twins Chris and Cru Kahui died in Auckland's Starship
hospital after suffering traumatic head injuries. No-one has been convicted. The latest figures show 11 babies, under the age of one, died due to assault in five years. But Jigsaw CEO Liz Kinley says the steps being taken by the Social Development Minister to reduce child-abuse are encouraging. “I’m
really heartened by Paula Bennett’s decision to have a green paper
prepared around how we raise our children in New Zealand, the way we
support them and look after them.” The adjourned coroners' inquest into the Kahui twins' deaths is due to re-open later this month.
