Judge removes himself in Casey Anthony civil case

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A hearing was held Friday morning in Zenaida Gonzalez's civil lawsuit against Casey Anthony and didn’t last long with the judge reclosing himself from the case.

After the start of the hearing, lawyers held a sidebar with Judge Jose Rodriguez. A short time later Judge Rodriguez announced that he is removing himself from the case.

Casey Anthony did not attend the hearing.

Gonzalez is suing Anthony for defamation, claiming her reputation was maligned when Anthony claimed a babysitter named Zenaida Gonzalez kidnapped her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee in the summer of 2008. The claim later was shown to be a lie.

Anthony was acquitted of murdering Caylee earlier this month and is scheduled to be released from jail on Sunday.

Gonzalez's attorneys argue that they may not get a chance to depose Anthony once she is released.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A second hearing is slated in the Casey Anthony civil hearing on Friday after the first abruptly ended with the judge recusing himself.

The case was quickly reassigned to Judge Lisa Munyon. The hearing was rescheduled for 3:30 p.m.
