The PAIGE-CRIADO Children - 2,5,6 & 7 yo and their Mother, Tabasha (7/2011) - Medford OR
An Oregon woman killed with her four children in a rampage of arson and
stabbings linked to her husband was long aware he was a convicted child
molester but never expressed any fear of him, her brother said on Thursday.
Tabasha Paige-Criado, 30, was
pulled from the family's burning home in Medford, Oregon, last Monday
along with her three sons, aged 5, 6 and 7, and a 2-year-old daughter.
All five were pronounced dead at a local hospital. Her 51-year-old spouse, Jordan
Criado, was found injured and unconscious in the house from smoke
inhalation. Hospitalized in custody, he is the only individual police
have named as a "person of interest" in the killings, though he remains
in a medically induced coma.His
brother-in-law, Jesse Adams, told reporters during a tearful news
conference on Thursday that his sister was unhappy in her marriage.
"We knew she wanted a divorce," he said, adding that "she obviously
didn't see anything coming or feel threatened."Medford police recently
confirmed that Criado at one point had served prison time in California for child molestation.Adams
said that his sister knew of Criado's past when she married him. "He
served his debt to society, and it has no bearing on what happened now,"
he said.Preliminary autopsy
results released on Thursday indicate that the mother died of multiple
stab wounds to the neck and abdomen. Carbon monoxide poisoning
contributed to the deaths of all four children, officials said, but two
of the boys also were stabbed in the neck.Investigators combing through
the charred home discovered the fire had been deliberately set in multiple locations. In
another bizarre twist to the case, police said the husband had reported
his wife missing four hours before the fire, but police found her safe
nearby and brought her back home. Officials said she did not seem
fearful or agitated at the time. The
killings unnerved many residents in Medford, a western Oregon city of
75,000 people about 275 miles south of Portland, they said.http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/07/22/us-family-killings-oregon-idUSTRE76L0JR20110722

GRANTS PASS, Ore. – The
man accused of killing his wife and four children and setting their
house on fire recovered enough to leave the hospital Thursday and was
immediately jailed on aggravated murder charges.
Police said Jordan Adam
Criado, 51, was alert and able to walk when he left the Rogue Valley
Medical Center in Medford and was taken to the Jackson County Jail. He
suffered smoke inhalation in the July 18 fire and was unconscious and on
a ventilator for days.
Chief Deputy District Attorney
Beth Heckert said he would be arraigned Friday in Jackson County
Circuit Court on charges of aggravated murder, felony murder,
manslaughter and arson. Detective Sgt. Mike Budreau said Criado did not
yet have an attorney.
An autopsy showed Tabasha Paige-Criado was stabled multiple times in the neck and abdomen.
The probable cause of death
for the children — Elijah, 7; Isaac, 6; Andrew, 5; and Aurora, 2 —
was listed as smoke inhalation. Stab wounds to the neck were listed as
an additional cause of death for Isaac and Andrew.
Firefighters and medics worked
feverishly on all six family members on the front lawn of their home
before rushing them to the hospital. Only Criado survived.
Family members said Criado met
his wife at a community college in Bakersfield, Calif. They married,
even though she found out he went to prison for sexually abusing three
girls in Sacramento County, they said.
Paige-Criado's family has said he moved them to Oregon to get away from his wife's family, who urged her to leave him.
Friends and family have said Paige-Criado wanted a divorce. Her postings on Facebook referred to Criado with disdain.

The hell it doesn't. Sounds like her brother is just as ignorant as she was.
He probably burned them up to hide the evidence of his pedophilia.
This is what happens when people ignore all the warning signs.

Dad arraigned in slaying of Bakersfield wife, 4 children
Aug 5, 2011
MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — The man accused in the slayings of his wife and four young children was arraigned Friday on aggravated murder charges, slumped in a wheelchair as he recovered from the fire that authorities say he set after stabbing his family.
Jordan Adam Criado, 51, of Medford, did not enter a plea via video from the Jackson County jail, a day after he was released from a hospital where he had spent three weeks being treated for smoke inhalation. His hair disheveled and his eyes cast downward, Criado asked in a barely audible voice for an attorney and to speak to his pastor.
Judge Lorenzo Mejia ordered him held without bail, saying an attorney would be appointed who is specially qualified to handle aggravated murder cases. He noted the charge can be punished by death by lethal injection.
A deputy wheeled Criado away from the video camera. Neither the jail nor the hospital commented on his health or mental condition, citing privacy laws.
Criado was charged with four counts of felony murder, four counts of manslaughter, and four counts of arson, along with 24 counts of aggravated murder alleging various scenarios in the slayings. Chief Deputy District Attorney Beth Heckert said prosecutors have not decided whether to seek the death penalty.
Criado is accused of stabbing his wife, Tabasha Paige-Criado, in the neck and abdomen multiple times, as well as two of their children, and setting fire to their single-story house on July 18.
Friends and family have said Paige-Criado wanted a divorce. Her postings on Facebook refer to Criado as her roommate, and suggest she held him in contempt.
Criado reported his wife missing a few hours before the fire. Police officers found her at a convenience store and gave her a ride home.
Police Chief Tim George said investigators spoke with Criado, but would not divulge what they asked or what Criado answered.
"The investigation is far from over," George said outside the courtroom. "There is still a lot of work to be done."
Family members have said Criado met his wife at a community college in Bakersfield, Calif., and they married, even after she discovered he went to prison for sexually abusing three girls in Sacramento County, Calif.
He moved them to Oregon to get away from her family, family members have said.

Family gets personal belongings of murder victims
Published: 2/03 7:17 pm
A Bakersfield family, once left with only memories of their murdered loved ones, now has boxes of their belongings to hold onto.
Police believe Jordan Criado killed his wife and their four children in Oregon before setting their rented home on fire. The owners of that home, the landlords, salvaged what they could and made a special delivery to Bakersfield.
Seconds after the U-Haul gate went up... "Oh my God, look at my babies."
Gwen Crowles gets a first glance at her daughter's and four grandchildren's belongings. Things they held dear - created a rush of emotion- of tears and joy.
"I'm overwhelmed. I mean I can't stop smiling," said Crowles.
All of the boxes came from the Oregon home, Bakersfield native, Tabasha Criado moved to with her four children. All five were found stabbed to death last July.
Police suspect Tabasha's husband, Jordan Criado, killed them, then set fire to the home.
Their landlord, Monte Frazier, gathered what he could save and drove 12 hours to Bakersfield, hoping to offer some closure.
"You really have angels as parents cause you don't find people that would do what they did," said Crowles. "And, they never met us, just through the phone, you know, that was Heaven sent because I had no way of getting this stuff here and this is all that I have of my babies."
"A simple picture of someone can bring back so many thoughts, memories, so then you start to remember good things instead of negative things," said Frazier.
"The Fraziers came down and brought this stuff. God Bless them," said Bill Crowles, Tabasha's father.
Some of the boxes are labeled. Others you can see a teddy bear and some books inside. They're all things once held dear to the couple's daughter and grandchildren.
Now, they are here for them to open and discover, possibly the comfort they've been wanting.
"You know, we still have a long ways to go, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. You know, good things are yet to come. I truly believe that," said Gwen Crowles.
Jordan Criado has been charged with murder, arson, and other crimes. A judge entered a 'not guilty'
plea on his behalf, saying Criado was mentally unable to do so on his own.
A trial date or mental health hearing will be set in March.
