DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Federal
prosecutors say a Florida man who pleaded guilty to taking an Iowa girl
back to Florida and having sex with her has been sentenced to more than
12 years in prison.
The U.S. attorney's office says 36-year-old
Justin Carter, of Jacksonville, Fla., was sentenced on Friday in federal
court in Davenport. He pleaded guilty in February to transportation of a
minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Prosecutors
say Carter had been talking to the then-12-year-old girl over an
Internet chat room. He traveled to Muscatine to meet the girl in June
2010, and they drove to his home on Jacksonville's Northside. FBI agents
found him there. He directed agents to a nearby park, where they found
the girl in a tent.

Prosecutors say Carter had sex with the girl at a motel in Illinois and provided her alcohol.
Carter was facing 20 years in prison before his guilty plea.

The girl was reunited with her family and returned to Iowa in June 2010.
Carter was also sentenced to 10 years of supervised release and restitution to the victim of $718
