Man Gets 25 Years In Stepdaughter's Death
15-Month-Old Girl Died In 2009 After Suffering Fractured Skull

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville stepfather has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in the death of his 15-month-old stepdaughter.
Chaddrick
Banks pleaded guilty Nov. 23 to second-degree murder in the death of
Ma'kiya Upshaw, who was rushed to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center in
September 2009 and later died.
Banks was initially charged with aggravated child abuse when Upshaw was taken to the hospital with a fractured skull.
Investigators
said the baby was alone with Banks when she became unconscious. Banks
called 911 and told a dispatcher the baby had "just stopped breathing."
Doctors said the baby had an unexplained "skull fracture and bleeding into the brain."
Police said Banks' description of the events was not consistent with the injuries.
