ALEXANDRIA WILLIAMS - 1 yo/ Accused: Javarris Lane - Jacksonville FL
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 1-year-old girl who had been hospitalized in critical condition since last week has died.Javarris Lane, 16, is charged with aggravated child abuse against the girl. The charges against him have not been upgraded. Lane's next court date is Oct. 11.

Jacksonville police were called to a home in the 2200 block of West First Street in Northwest Jacksonville on Sept. 25.Police
said they went into the back bedroom and found an adult trying to
perform CPR on the unresponsive infant on a bed. The girl was taken to
Shands Jacksonville Medical Center in life-threatening condition, then
transferred to Wolfson Children's Hospital.Lane told officers the child fell from a bed in the room where she was playing a game, according to a police report.Police said there was a twin bed in that bedroom that measured 20 inches from its highest point to the floor.Investigators
said the distance from the top of the bed to the floor was "not
reasonable for the fall to be the cause" for the child's injuries,
according to a police report.Lane later made admissions that were
redacted from the report and "used a doll to show" police what he had
done, according to the report.Lane was eventually arrested and booked into the Duval County Jail. The Department of Children and Families is also investigating.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The teenager who was the last person with a
baby before her death has had his charges upgraded from aggravated
child abuse to murder.
Javarris Jawon Lane, 16, was arrested following the Sept. 25 incident at a home on West First Street.
The victim, 1-year-old Alexandria Williams, was found unresponsive and hospitalized. She died at the hospital four days later.
Lane initially said Williams was sitting in his lap as he played a video game, and that he put her on the bed and she fell off.
However, detectives determined the bed was too low to the floor (20 inches) for such a fall to cause such serious injuries.
Lane was arrested on a charge of aggravated child abuse.
After Williams' death, the medical examiner determined the death was a homicide.
Detectives interviewed Lane, with his father present, and he changed
his story after learning the child couldn't have been fatally injured falling from that bed.
Williams then said she was crying, so he shook her, and her head hit the dresser twice while he shook her.
This morning, Lane was charged with the murder of Alexandria Williams.
