Clearwater, Florida - A 22-year-old man has been charged with
aggravated child abuse for intentionally dropping a 9-month-old girl on
the floor because she would not stop crying, police said.

Joseph Kenneth Oliver Jr. was arrested after doctors at Mease
Countryside Hospital determined the injuries to the child were blunt
force trauma consistent with abuse.

The child, who was not identified, was transferred to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa in critical condition.

Police say Oliver confessed to intentionally dropping the child on a
tile floor at least twice out of anger and frustration when she would
not stop crying.

Baby girl dies after being repeatedly dropped on tile floor

CLEARWATER, Florida — A 9-month-old Tampa Bay area girl who authorities say was repeatedly dropped by her mother's boyfriend has died.

Clearwater police say Aaliyah Siler died Wednesday afternoon at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa.

Authorities say Joseph Kenneth Oliver Jr., 22, was babysitting the little girl Tuesday when he intentionally dropped her face-first onto his bathroom's tile floor. Oliver told detectives he dropped the child at least two times out of frustration because she was crying.

Oliver was initially charged with aggravated child abuse, but police say the charge was elevated to first-degree murder after the girl's death.
