GAVIN LANE - 19 yo - South Brunswick SC

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office is
looking for any information on the location and whereabouts of a teen
who disappeared from a golf course.

19-year-old Gavin Lane was last seen at the
Brierwood Golf Course on October 7, 2011 around 2:30 in the afternoon.
He is described as fair, with blonde hair, weighing between 150-180 lbs.
and 5'10" tall.

UPDATE: A close friend of the family tells us that Gavin Lane apparently committed suicide. His body was found near his home in Shallotte. We usually don't report on suicides, but since we did a story about Lane missing, it only makes sense to let viewers know he was found.


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Investigators in Brunswick County are looking for a missing teenager who never came home from a run Friday. Family and friends say they last saw Gavin Lane Friday when he went for a jog at Brierwood Golf Course in Shallotte.

Lane is a white male with blond hair and a fair complexion. He is 5'10" and 150-180 pounds.

Foul play not suspected in death of Shallotte man

Police Department does not suspect foul play in the death of
19-year-old John Gavin Lane, according to a news release.

Lane, who was first reported missing Monday afternoon, was found dead Tuesday about 200 yards from his home.

The Brunswick County Search and Rescue team was called in to assist.

The
search was focused around Lane's home at 136 Country Club Drive and the
nearby Brierwood Golf Club. Lane worked at the golf course, which is
owned by his parents, Shallotte Police Chief Rodney Gause said.

Lane left his cell phone and wallet at home, and his car was also at home.

"He was a very popular kid," Gause said Tuesday morning. Lane played
baseball and had a lot of friends. The chief actually coached Lane in a
Dixie Youth baseball league when he was younger.

Lane graduated from West Brunswick High School in 2010.
