SANTA ANA, Calif. -- Orange County
prosecutors say a woman who suspected her boyfriend of cheating set up a
hidden camera to catch him in the act and instead discovered him
violently abusing their two-month-old son.
Twenty-four-year-old Joshua Allen Robey was charged Friday with attempted murder, torture and child abuse.
Prosecutors
say the video caught Robey punching the child in the chest and shaking
him. He also was seen wrapping a blanket around the baby's neck like a
noose and swinging him around for over a minute.



Robey's girlfriend took the baby to the hospital after seeing the
video and hospital officials contacted police. The baby remains
hospitalized.
If convicted, Robey faces 15 years to life in prison. He is being held on $1 million bail.
His arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 9.

He was left alone with the infant to babysit, but his girlfriend, who
thought he was cheating on her, left a hidden camera behind. The next
morning, she saw him swinging the child in a noose-like blanket. then
punching and shaking the tiny boy.


The Orange County, California
laborer, 24-year-old Joshua Robey, has now been arrested, and is charged
with one felony count each of attempted murder, torture and child
abuse. Los Angeles Times Local reports
that Robey was living sporadically with his girlfriend and her mother
in Anaheim, but three weeks before the October 18th incident, he moved
to a motel in Costa Mesa.


The charges accuse Robey of trying to kill his 2-month-old son by
allegedly swinging him in a blanket tied up to be a noose, from his neck
for over a minute, then he laid the child back down and punched him
several times in the chest with his fists tightly closed, then he
grabbed the infant by the throat with two hands and lifted him up the
air to violently shake him. All this was caught on the tape the
girlfriend left on.


Prosecutors say the tape also shows that at one point when the child was
crying, Robey covered the baby's mouth with his hand, grabbed him by
the neck and shook him high in the air.


The New York Daily News
reports the accusations of attempted murder are because he tried to
suffocate his son by covering his face with a blanket, along with
covering the child's mouth with his hand for several second.


The baby's mother watched the video she'd left the next morning, and to
her horror, discovered what her boyfriend had done. The woman's mother
then saw the video later that afternoon, and rushed the baby to the
hospital. Hospital staff got in touch with the Anaheim police.


Robey was arrested at the motel that day. His son remains in the
hospital, and Prosecutors have not revealed the extent of his injuries.
But they say if he is convicted on all the charges, Robey will face up
to 15 years in state prison. He is being held in jail in lieu of
$1-million bail. In jail records, Robey put down that he works as a
laborer.
