"Newborn Jane" CLEVELAND - 3 Months/ Accused: Janice Guidry - Houston TX

HOUSTON—A Southwest Houston woman has been charged with injuring and
failing to report the injuries of a 3-month-old girl in her care,
according to Houston police.

Janice Guidry received no bond and was charged with injury to a child
and injury to a child by omission. It was the second child-abuse case
filed against her in the past seven months.

According to a police document, Guidry is accused of failing to
report severe malnourishment and fractures to a 3-month-old girl’s legs.
The document also states the baby is not her daughter.

Twanda Cleveland apparently told police she is the child’s mother, but could not raise her, so she gave the baby to Guidry.

No one would answer the door at Guidry’s home Wednesday, but some neighbors spoke out. All of them refused to be identified.

One said that Guidry and her husband kept to themselves, but that they were cordial.

Another described Guidry as being temperamental.

"I just know there have been a lot of problems down there at her home
with the police for many years. Most domestic, but lately it’s gotten
worse, especially after the SWAT raid last spring," the neighbor said.

Guidry, according to another affidavit, is also known as Janice
Jenkins. She was charged with injury to a child in April after she
allegedly beat her 11-year-old godson with an extension cord.

"Obviously she has a temper. And I’ve seen that temper. I’ve had a
little confrontation with her. All of the neighbors know about it, they
just don’t want to say anything," another neighbor said.

The 3-month-old girl was placed into CPS custody, officials said.
