CLEVELAND - Police in Cleveland are asking for the public’s help to
find a teenager from Africa, last seen on the west side, who has only
been in the country for a short time.
Cleveland police said
18-year-old Harriet Akiluga was last seen leaving John Marshall High
School Thursday at about 4:45 p.m. She had only been a student there for
two days.

Her mom filed a missing person’s report after she didn’t come home.
Akiluga
is from Kenya, Africa and arrived in the United States about a month
ago, according to police. Officers checked with school officials,
neighbors and area hospitals, but have not found any signs of her.

VULNERABLE MISSING: Harriet Akiluga, 18 - Cleveland (West Side), OHIO (IMPAIRED VISION and LIMITED ENGLISH)

An 18-year-old woman, who came to the United States from Kenya only last month, is missing from her West Side home.

Police ask the public's help to locate Harriet Akiluga who was reported missing by her mother. She was last seen at 4:45 p.m. Thursday leaving John Marshall High School, where she has been a student for two days.

She is described as a black woman; about 5 feet,2 inches tall; weighing 154 pounds; black hair and brown eyes and wearing a pink, hooded sweatshirt, blue shirt and blue pants.

Linda Dooley Johanek, chief executive officer of the domestic violence and child advocacy center, said the missing woman is vision impaired and her command of English is limited.

Volunteers are combing the area today, putting up flyers and pictures.

"This is very disturbing, and once again the vulnerability of a young woman is at play," said Johanek.


Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Harriet Akiluga is asked to call Cleveland police detectives at 216-623-5218.

CLEVELAND -- Police have found Harriet Akiluga near W. 54th Street and Tillman Avenue.

Sergeant Sammy Morris, said she was found safe and now will be returned to her mother.

Harriet Akiluga, 18, was reported missing by her mother who last saw
her Dec. 8. Akiluga was last seen leaving John Marshall High School at
4:45 p.m. that day.

Akiluga is from Kenya, Africa and has only been in the United States for a month.

She had been a student at John Marshall for two days.
