A Hamden mother and her boyfriend have been arrested, accused of abusing a 2 year old to the point where doctors said the child could be in “imminent danger of dying” if returned to the home.

Hamden Police responded to 42 Warner St., Apt. B9, on Sept. 28 for a report of a lethargic, injured 2 year-old child and the child was transported to Yale–New Haven Hospital.

The child received emergency surgery and was treated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, police said.

The 2 year old was severely dehydrated, had a fractured femur, extensive bruising on the head, chest, abdomen and back and trauma to the liver and pancreas, police said.

The child also suffered severe diaper rash.

On Sept. 29, Detective Stephen Rossacci, of the Hamden Police Department Special Victims Unit, met with Yale–New Haven Hospital medical personnel and the Department of Children.

Physicians told police they suspected child abuse and feared the child “would be in imminent danger of dying” if returned home, police said.

The child is in the custody of the state Department of Children and Families.

Police arrested the child’s mother, Mariangely Arroyo-Rosado, 27, and her boyfriend, Bevon Young, 26, on Dec. 8, at their Warner Street home.

Arroyo-Rosado and Young were both charged with reckless endangerment in the 1st degree, assault in the 2nd degree and risk of injury to a minor.

They were detained at police headquarters on a $50,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in court in Meriden on Dec. 20.
