Law & Disorder: Mom used baby as shield when boyfriend attacked her, police say
Man, 24, attacked the child's mother, 22, the arrest report says.

The fight started with fists, then a knife before a 22-year-old mother held up her year-old son as a human shield, hoping she wouldn’t be stabbed by the child’s father on Dec. 9 in their Sunbeam Road apartment, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
But the man threw the child to the floor face-first as the attack continued, the woman told police.
Devin Juan Wilkes, 24, is behind bars on $500,000 bail after his Monday arrest on charges of aggravated assault, child abuse, battery and felony domestic battery.
Police said they found Wilkes hiding in the baby’s bedroom closet after the child’s mother, Sheena Hunter, told them she hadn’t seen Wilkes since the attack.
Police said Wilkes and Hunter have been together for two years. They were arguing and Wilkes began punching her in the face, the report said.
When he later waved a kitchen knife at her, she told police she grabbed their son and held him in front of her, feeling he “would not stab her if their child was in between them.”
Hunter told police Wilkes threw then her on the bed and choked her before fleeing.
Paramedics checked the baby, who wasn’t taken to a hospital, while the mother refused treatment of a cut lip, police said.
Records show this was Wilkes’ third domestic-violence arrest in three years.
He served 16 days in jail in 2009 and got a year’s probation in 2008.

This woman is a piss poor mother. She had a baby with a man whom she knows is violent. We will be hearing more from her. When this guy goes to prison her poor baby will be at risk because she doesn't care about him, only herself. JMO.
