A 14-month-old Jacksonville boy who fell into the pool at his family’s Mandarin home on Christmas Eve has died, authorities said.

Sean T. Clifford’s death is being listed as accidental after family found him about 2 p.m. in the pool at their Blackjack Grove Lane home, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Neighbor Keith Baldwin had said his family was just starting to open gifts when they heard screaming next door and ran over to find the toddler’s father performing CPR. Police said they weren’t sure how long the child had been in the water, and he was unresponsive but alive when he was taken to Baptist Medical Center South.

The toddler’s death was the latest in a number of child drowning cases in Jacksonville in 2011. A 6-year-old Westside boy drowned in a pool in mid-August, while a pool in Arlington and a lake in
Mandarin claimed two others a month earlier.
