JOSEPH KRYPEL III - 2 Months - Norton Shores/ Muskegon MI
A Norton Shores man is behind bars facing allegations that he abused his two-month old son, sending the boy to the hospital. Authorities
said that Joseph Michael Krypel II hurt his son Joseph Krypel III --
perhaps by shaking him -- in their Norton Shores home in late December
2011.

Krypel was arraigned on Tuesday on one count of
first-degree child abuse, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in
prison. His is being held at the Muskegon County Jail on $25,000 cash or
surety bond.
Authorities were alerted to the alleged abuse after
the baby was taken to Mercy Health Partners Hackley Campus emergency
room, suffering from dehydration and difficulty breathing, police said.
The
baby stopped breathing for a short time. He was in such poor condition
that he was taken to Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids. He spent at
least six days in the hospital. As of Jan. 4, his condition was listed
as stable, police said.
Medical personnel had contacted Muskegon
County Child Protective Services, which then contacted police in the
early morning hour s of Dec. 30.
Statements from doctors and other interviews led authorities to believe that Krypel was responsible.
