An accused child killer now knows his fate.
After just 2 ½ hours, a jury found Zach Connell guilty of killing his girlfriend's three year old son, Addison Baldwin.

Prosecutors said a trial like this truly takes a toll on everyone involved.

"His name was Addison Baldwin," Assistant
Iowa Attorney Scott Brown said to the jury holding a picture of the boy,
"and on October 12, 2010, he was murdered by this man."

Brown said child abuse cases are among the hardest to handle.

"They are such small innocent victims," Brown explained, "they don't carry baggage into a courtroom, they're just kids."

So prosecutors do everything they can to bring the accused, and in this case, Davenport's Zach Connell, to justice.

Several doctors testified during the 8 day
trial that Addison's injuries to the stomach, heart, liver, and pancreas
were the result of blunt force trauma. During the autopsy, examiners
found half of the boy's blood in his stomach.

Addison's mom, Vanessa Baldwin, said she watched Connell hit Addison in an effort to "toughen him up."

Brown said the day Connell killed Addison, the fact he didn't call Vanessa or 9–1–1 for help proves his guilt.

"He didn't say, 'Vanessa something is wrong
with Addison. Come meet me at the hospital,'" Brown explained, "he
doesn't do that because he knows what he did. He's in big trouble. He
went too far this time and he cost Addison his life."

Connell will be sentenced to life without parole.

WHAT???? The mom was aware that the POS boyfriend beat her son and then he eventually beat him to death? Was she prosecuted too?
