THE 1-YEAR-OLD Bronx boy who died in the care of his mother’s boyfriend
on Wednesday was murdered, according to autopsy results released by the
city’s medical examiner.

Baby Richard Fludd had rib fractures and injuries to his internal
organs, a spokeswoman said, and died from blunt force injury to his
torso.

Doctors at Montefiore Medical Center found apparent burn marks and
bruising the infant — who had a cast on his previously broken right leg —
when he was taken there after he fell unconscious in his Wakefield
apartment, police sources said.

Cops were questioning the mother’s boyfriend, identified by police sources and family members as Reginald Smith, 24, who found the child unconscious, police sources said. But no arrests have been made, cops said.

Smith told investigators he was asleep with Richard on the couch when
the baby rolled off and landed face-first, a police source said. Smith,
who is not the child’s father, said he then took the child to the
bathroom to wash his face when he noticed the baby fell unconscious, the
police source said.

Richard’s unnamed 23-year-old mother was at school during the incident, a police source said.

he had a broken leg and returned to the home? where were the red flags? this is ridiculous! the mother knew and should be charged. im so tired and the mothers saying they didnt know!

Once again, this mother should be arrested. At the very least she was negligent. A broken leg for gawd's sake and she is still letting him babysit. What is wrong with this picture? Was she also abusive?

IMO u cant live in the same residence with another person and not know that they have an abusive nature. do these "mothers" not bathe their babies or change their diapers and see the signs of abuse? there is NO excuse for this behavior or for letting it happen over and over again.
