JARIEL ALEXANDER - 2 yo -(2009) Kissimmee FL

Post by TomTerrific0420 on Tue Oct 13, 2009 2:04 am

A 2-year-old boy did something Sunday that 2-year-olds often do -- soiled his pants.

But this boy died Monday after he was beaten for doing so, Kissimmee police said.

Covered with burns, the toddler was rushed Sunday evening to a
Kissimmee hospital, where he was unresponsive from a severe head
injury, according to police reports.

The injuries were not reported for at least 30 minutes until the
child's mother returned home from work about 7 p.m. and her boyfriend
came running outside with the lifeless child wrapped in a towel, the
report stated.

The boyfriend, Jonathan Alicea, 19, of Kissimmee, told police the child
lost consciousness after being shoved to the ground for urinating in
his pants at dinner, the report stated. Alicea told investigators he
first tried CPR and then poured a pot of boiling water on the
youngster's face to try to revive him, the report stated.

Asked why he waited at least 30 minutes before seeking help, Alicea
told police "his cell phone is disconnected and he does not like to
depend on neighbors for anything," the report stated.

The child died about 11:15 a.m. Monday at Arnold Palmer Hospital in
Orlando, police said. The Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner has not yet
received the child's body to perform an autopsy, but expects to be able
to do so by today, a spokeswoman said.

Alicea was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is held
without bail in the Osceola County Jail.
Police did not release the name of the mother or the child on Monday.
The Kissimmee Utility Authority shows a woman named Silkia Mateo
receives a utility bill at an address where the couple shared a home.

The child's mother was not at her second-story apartment Monday
afternoon on Pine Branch Drive, where a neighbor who moved in two weeks
ago had not heard that the child had died.

"No, don't tell me that. Oh, God. It's terrible. That's really
terrible," said Cristina Batetta, who did not arrive home Sunday until
about 7 p.m.

Several neighbors in the apartment complex, including one who lives
downstairs from where police say the crime took place, told the Orlando
Sentinel they heard no noise during the time the child was attacked.

Battle of wills

Alicea stayed at home Sunday to care for his girlfriend's two children
-- the 2-year-old and a 6-year-old sibling, according to his statements
to police.

About 5 p.m., Alicea cooked hot dogs and scrambled eggs, and he grew
frustrated when the 2-year-old wouldn't eat, police said. At some point
the youngster stood up and urinated in his pants.

Alicea said he ordered him to change his underwear. The child refused to change his pants after walking toward the bathroom.

"This angered Jonathan," a police officer wrote. "Jonathan told me he
walked towards [the child] and "pushed" [the child's] head with his
left hand. This caused [the child] to lose consciousness immediately."

When the child stopped breathing the report stated Alicea placed the
child in an empty bedroom dresser drawer and attempted CPR with no
results. Alicea "boiled a pot of water and then poured it on [the
child] stating he believed it would revive him."

Alicea told police that the child did not strike his head after being
pushed to the floor. Police noticed swelling on Alicea's left hand and
Alicea acknowledged he was left handed and shoved the boy with that
hand.

"During the interview, Jonathan [Alicea] showed no emotion whatsoever," the report stated.

No history with DCF

The Department of Children and Families does not have any prior
investigations into the family, spokeswoman Carrie Hoeppner said.

"The injuries and allegations are absolutely disturbing," Hoeppner said.

DCF officials did not immediately find any abuse allegations involving
the mother of the two children, but will interview the older sibling
soon, Hoeppner said.

"We will be looking for any type of [abuse] history," Hoeppner said.
"We need to at this point secure and ensure the safety of the sibling."

A criminal history compiled by the Florida Department of Law
Enforcement shows Alicea was arrested twice as a juvenile and charged
with sex crimes.

A Kissimmee teenager is accused of murdering his girlfriend's
2-year-old son. Detectives say it was a simple parenting chore that
pushed him over the edge. The little boy's mother was working at
Disney when 19-year-old Jonathan Alicea allegedly committed the crime.
Alicea says he waited until his girlfriend came home Sunday night, at
least a half hour after the child had stopped breathing, then carried
him down the steps wrapped in a towel. She could see burns on her child
and said his explanation was very disturbing.“No, don't tell me that. Oh no, oh my God,” neighbor Cristina Batetta said, reacting to the news.Kissimmee
police are not releasing the names of the child or his mother. Police
say Jonathan Alicea, who works at the Poinciana Lowe's distribution
center, told his girlfriend her son was choking. He then told officers
he got angry when the boy refused to eat, soiled himself and then
failed to follow Alicea's order to change his clothes.Alicea
said he pushed the boy's head, which knocked him out and stopped him
from breathing. He said he put the boy in an empty dresser drawer and
tried reviving him. When that didn't work, he boiled a pot of water and
poured it on the child.“I can't believe my ears. I can't believe
what you're telling me right now. I live right over there and I have
never heard about anything like this,” neighbor Luis Perez said.Alicea
said he did not call 911, because his cell phone was disconnected and
he didn’t like to rely on neighbors for help. Kissimmee police plan to
change the charge against him to first-degree murder on Tuesday.“Oh it's terrible. It's really terrible,” Batetta said.Alicea
has two sexually-related arrests on his record involving a child
between 12 and 15 years old. He is being held at the Osceola County
jail without bond.Neighbors said they did not hear any commotion
coming from the little boy's apartment Sunday, but he may not have had
a chance to cry.The murder is Kissimmee's first homicide of the year.

Jonathan Alicea

Once again we have a case of a mother using her live in magic stick, uh, I mean boyfriend, as daycare, and having said boyfriend injure the child he was supposed to be taking care of.

One of the things I’ve noticed about abuse cases like this is that the victims are almost always from the most helpless and difficult of age groups, from newborn through age three. Anyone who has had children knows that this is the age group that tests your patience the most. They cry constantly and can’t communicate why. They won’t go to sleep, no matter how much you want them to or how tired you are. They misbehave and challenge your authority. They refuse to potty train and mess
themselves at the worst possible moments.

In this particular case, Silkia Mateo, 22, (Her MySpace Picture Albums – Thanks mamacyn) of Kissimmee, Florida, left her 2-year-old son, Jariel Alexander, and his 6-year-old sibling with her teenaged boyfriend, Jonathan Alicea, while she went to work. I am unaware of the special set of skills a 19-year-old young man has that qualify him to care for two young children, and apparently so was Ms. Mateo, as we shall see.

Alicea had cooked dinner for himself and his two charges, scrambled eggs and hot dogs, which little Jariel refused to eat. This, of course, frustrated Jonathan Ariel, and he grew angry and shouted at the boy. Jariel got frightened, stood up, and proceeded to wet his pants. The boy became defiant and refused to change his pants when Alicea ordered him to.

So we have reached the critical point, when Jonathan Alicea has to make a choice. He can’t let a three year old boy get the best of him, or he’ll walk all over him. So how does he discipline him? Does he take the boy into the bathroom and change his underwear for him, showing him that now matter what, the adult is always in charge. Of course not.

Instead, he slapped Jariel hard across the head, slamming it against the wall of the hallway.

Jariel immediately lost consciousness. When he stopped breathing, Jonathan Alicea took a pot of boiling water and poured it over the little boy’s face in an attempt to revive him. I had to thank God that Jariel never regained consciousness after reading this. I mean who is that stupid to think pouring boiling water on a child’s face is a good idea under ANY circumstances?

Of course, Jonathan Alicea had a slightly different story to tell the police. He told the police that when the Jariel Alexander refused to change his pants:
“This angered Jonathan. Jonathan told me he walked towards Jariel and “pushed” Jariel's head with his left hand.
This caused Jariel to lose consciousness immediately.”

After performing CPR with no results, Jonathan Alicea:
“boiled a pot of water and then poured it on [the child] stating he believed it would revive him.”

“During the interview, Jonathan Alicea showed no emotion whatsoever.”

Asked why he waited at least 30 minutes before seeking help, Alicea told police:
“his cell phone is disconnected and he does not like to depend on neighbors for anything.”

The injuries were not reported until the child’s mother returned home from work about 7 PM. Jonathan Alicea came running outside with the lifeless child wrapped in a towel and told her the baby was choking.

Doctors at Arnold Palmer Memorial Hospital in Orlando, Florida, said that Jariel arrived at their emergency room covered with burns and suffering from a severe head injury.

Jariel Alexander died at 11:15PM Sunday night. An autopsy is expected to be performed on the young child’s body today. In the meantime, Jonathan Alicea has been charged with First Degree Murder.

Silkia Mateo, mother of Jariel Alexander, has not been charged in this case. Perhaps losing her son is enough of a penalty for leaving her children with Jonathan Alicea, nearly a kid himself.

God help me for thinking this, and even more for actually saying it out loud, but I see these situations where some women are taking up with younger, teenaged boys and using these kids as daycare as a case of them selling themselves for the convenience of having someone to watch their kids while they work.

This is something that’s been eating at me for a long time now, and maybe its time someone said it. Perhaps I’m using the wrong words, or I’m way too rude and crude about it (Let’s face it, subtlety has never been a strong point of mine), but I’m tired of innocent little children lining up for their coffins. I’m also tired of the silence about this issue. I understand that child care is a serious issue for single mothers, but there has to be a better way – and this is certainly not the right way.

I also think the boiling water story that Jonathan Alicea told police is total bullshit. I believe he poured the boiling water on Jariel Alexander’s face to punish him, and that the boy was conscious when he did it. The boiling water torture came first, then the slap to the head. It just doesn’t make sense to me that anyone would use boiling water in an attempt to revive a child who has stopped breathing, and if it doesn’t make sense, it probably isn’t true. I ask you all, have any of you ever heard of anything even remotely close to what Jonathan Alicea did with that pot of boiling water, for the reason he stated?

I totally agree. Most of these mothers should go to jail right along with their men, the men they bring into their homes without even knowing them, and putting their children in harms way.

Man gets 30 years for killing toddler over soiled diapers

Toddler beaten, then scalded with boiling water

Jonathan Alicea (Osceola County Jail / May 3, 2011)

Orlando Sentinel

12:47 p.m. EDT, May 3, 2011

KISSIMMEE — A 21-year-old man pleaded guilty today to killing his girlfriend's son in 2009.

Jonathan Alicea pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Alicea became upset that the 2-year-old Jariel Alexander soiled his diapers on the afternoon of Oct. 11, 2009, according to Kissimmee Police records. Jariel sustained a head injury.

Alicea
said he only pushed the child when Jariel lost consciousness. Alicea
told detectives he tried to revive him with cardiopulmonary
resuscitation.

When that failed, he boiled a pot of water instead of calling 911 and dumped it on the child to try to wake him, reports stated.

Alicea
waited for his girlfriend, Silkia Mateo, 22, to return home about 7:15
p.m. before taking Jariel to Osceola Regional Medical Center in
Kissimmee.

The youngster died the next day after being
transported in critical condition to Orlando Regional Medical Center,
reports stated.

Guess the mother gets off free on this one.

Does she know she is largely responsible for her son's murder?

Will she make the same stupid mistakes again?

Has she learned anything?

I was first on scene for that call and it was something to see. That apartment was not fit for a third world country. That poor child and for his brother to see everything that happen. I also believe that she was pregnant with his child at the time, not sure though about that. Just a terrible shame.

I'm almost speechless. I hadn't read this story, yet. My God, he boiled water to "wake" the baby? Are you f'in kidding me? And I highly doubt this guy could pronounce "cardiopulmonary
resuscitation," let alone administer it.

John, I barely know what to say to you. I applaud you and your efforts. You don't get paid nearly enough for what you do, but you have our everlasting gratitude.

Thanks for your input John.

Do you know why this "mother" was not arrested? Surely she knew her child was being beaten by her monster boyfriend.

If nothing else she should have been arrested for the condition of her home, where her helpless defenseless children had to live.

Thanks.
