JAMAR PINKNEY Jr. - 15 yo - Highland Park IL

A day after a 15-year-old was found dead in a field and his father
held in the slaying, relatives spoke of how the teen spent the last
moments of his life naked, kneeling on the ground outside of a house
with his father pointing a gun at his head. On Monday, the teen
-- whom relatives identified as Jamar Pinkney Jr. -- apparently had
argued with his 37-year-old father, said his aunt, Yolanda Cherry. Tensions quickly escalated. At one point, the suspect even pointed a gun at Cherry, she said.
Shortly after, police say, the man
marched his son out of the home near Rosa Parks Boulevard and, as the
teen begged for his life, shot him in the head, execution style. Jamar
died from the wound. His father likely will be arraigned today in the death of his son. Wayne
County prosecutors received a request for an arrest warrant Tuesday
afternoon, but a review of the request pushed an arraignment back until
this morning, officials said. Highland Park police officials
declined to comment on the case Tuesday, saying only that the shooting
occurred after an argument between the suspect and his son. Attorneys Corbett O'Meara and David Draper represent the father. Neither would talk about the case Tuesday at the Highland Park police station and courthouse. Meanwhile,
Jamar's body had not yet been turned over to a funeral home Tuesday,
the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office said. Two stuffed
animals lay in the lot near the spot where the teen was slain. Pieces
of police tape and what appeared to be dried blood stains were visible
near the toys. Friends and relatives gathered at a home nearby. Visitors declined comment and Jamar's mother was too shaken to talk.

“There is no sane reaction to the rape of a child,” said
Pinkney’s lawyer, Corbett O’Meara, after the hearing. “His son
confessed rape, actual rape, of his toddler sister.”
Pinkney acted “under heat of passion,” O’Meara said and should
be found “not guilty by reason of insanity” or found guilty of
manslaughter. No evidence of sexual penetration was introduced at
today’s hearing despite testimony about the girl being taken to
Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit a day before the shooting.
O’Meara said that the defense would introduce medical reports
that indicated the girl had evidence of vaginal tearing. He said Jamar
Jr. had at first denied he molested the girl then later said he only
lay on top of her but they had their clothes on.
O’Meara said the teen finally admitted to his father that he
had vaginal sex with the girl and Pinkney snapped when he heard it. He said his client is now “devastated” and under the care of a
psychiatrist at the Wayne County jail where he is being held without
bond. “He doesn’t understand how any of this could have happened,” O’Meara said.

calm to crazy and out of control the day he beat his 15-year-old son,

called Dearing soon after the shooting.

evidence of penetration or other physical trauma when the girl was
examined at Children's Hospital.The first witness, Yolanda Cherry, the teen's aunt,
wept as she took the stand. She testified that a three-hour family
meeting about the alleged molestation ended with the teen being beaten,
kicked and stripped by his father.Cherry said she tried to stop the beating, but the
father pulled a gun and said: "(Expletive), you want some of this, too?"She said she ran to a
neighbor's home to call police when she heard a gunshot. She found her
nephew naked in the lot and took his hand pleading: "Hold on, baby.""I put my hand back on
his heart, and it stopped," she testified.

After three days of heart-wrenching testimony, a Wayne County Circuit
Court jury took 2 hours and 50 minutes to convict Jamar Pinkney Sr. of
second-degree murder Thursday for fatally shooting his son because the
boy allegedly molested his half sister.
Pinkney, who also was convicted of three counts of assault and using a
firearm in a felony, faces a life prison term, with the possibility of
parole, at his April 15 sentencing by Judge Brian Sullivan.Pinkney, 38, was
charged with first-degree murder. The jury was given the option of
manslaughter. But jury foreperson Abby Whitford said the debate was
focused on "whether or not he could control it at the time."No matter the limit of
his self-control, "he still needs to be held accountable," said
Whitford, 21, of Southgate."We all felt very strongly on murder," she said,
noting the initial vote was 10-2 for first-degree murder.The panel agreed with
the two members insisting on second-degree after reinstruction on
intent, she said.Whitford
said she and the other jurors found the testimony followed them from
the courtroom and crowded out their sleep: "And in the last four days, I
think I ate maybe three meals."Pinkney testified he had an out-of-body experience
last November when he beat, stripped and marched Jamar Pinkney Jr., 15,
into a vacant lot and shot him in the face at point-blank range. He said
he lost control when his son allegedly confessed to trying to have sex
with his 3-year-old half sister.But the boy's mother, Lazette Cherry, said he admitted
only to "humping on" the child.Examination by two doctors found no sure evidence of
penetration."Every time you think you've heard the worst case possible, something comes
along that's even worse," said prosecutor Christine Kowal. "This one was
almost surreal."Kowal said the family was "a little puzzled by the second-degree verdict,"
but they are "pleased he's being held accountable."Defense attorney Corbett Edge O'Meara said the
verdict was a victory "because Jamar Pinkney won't have to die in
prison."O'Meara explained his client's detached courtroom demeanor: "Mr. Pinkney is an
essentially dead human being since that day in November. Now he can begin to heal."

A Detroit area father who shot his 15-year-old son to death after the teen admitted molesting a 3-year-old girl has received 37 to 80 years in prison.
Jamar Pinkney Sr. of Highland Park was sentenced Thursday by Wayne
County Circuit Judge Brian Sullivan in the Nov. 16 death of Jamar
Pinkney Jr.


He was convicted April 1 of second-degree murder.
Defense attorney Corbett Edge O'Meara says the 37-year-old Pinkney
won't be eligible for parole until 2046. O'Meara says he is disappointed
with the sentence and expects Pinkney to appeal.
O'Meara argued the father, enraged after his son's
admission, couldn't control himself when witnesses say he forced the
teen to strip, marched him to an empty lot and shot him in the head.

I want to first say, I am the mother of the little girl and I would greatly appreciate for things to be said accurately if it is indeed going to be posted. Things on these forums get so twisted because it is truly,second hand information. I would like to clear up some facts for the record. There was true evidence of sexual abuse found on my daughter via her pediatrician. The ER doctor at CH of M stated for the record, that it is very possible he could have overlooked the tear that was found on her. He also testified that he sees about 20-30 patients a day and he doesn't even remember her and then at the same time, can tell the prosecutor which parent he spoke to the night in question. Hmm, how is this possible if he doesn't remember her? Her doctor stated for the record that he's been knowing her since birth, he knows her very well, and that he did a very thorough exam on her which he did and discovered a laceration on her vestibular fossa. Now, get ready for this, the ER doctor stated for the record that there are two places for the vestibular fossa, the upper and lower part of the vagina. Thus, keep in mind that he's only been practicing medicine 16 years. When my daughters doctor gets on the stand he corrects the era of the ER doctor and states for the record, and by the way, has been a doctor 43 years that there is only one part of the vagina that is considered to be the vestibular fossa. Secondly, JP Sr., told the court how detailed his son was with the information he received from him and he didn't use the word "humping" as stated here in this forum. He said he stuck his penis in my baby's vagina. Any other questions you have or any other information you want for accuracy, just ask! Please do not get second hand information, try to post it, and then post it inaccurately Mr. TomTerrific!

I am truly not taking this out on you personally, but i wish people would stop taking that word, "humping" as though it can only mean with your clothes on as Ms Cherry stated. If that young man had his clothes on, my daughter would not have had a laceration,tear,cut,etc.,and maybe we would all be happy.Hell, if our parents didn't do any humping, we wouldn't be here now would we? Unfortunately, everyone in this has suffered some sort of consequences in all of this. The prosecutor had the audacity to say that she feels that Jamar Jr. did a bad thing to my baby and then turned around to imply that she scratched herself from having a UTI in which she was not being treated for, neither had any symptoms of such illness. How dumb is that?

This is to the mother of the three year old girl who was allegedly molested. Never once since this story has broke has this information you provided on this forum ever came to life for the media. Even if what you are saying is true I believe Jamar Sr sentencing would have been much different. There is something fishy to me about what you are saying for the simple fact you are the only one who said it. My other question would be why come on this forum and try to clear the air or what ever it was you were trying to do? For someone who's daughter who was penetrated as you say your daughter was why are we just now hearing from you? I would have been in front of the cameras from day one stating what this deceased young man had done to my daughter. I have kept up with this story from day one and not once did I hear these findings you say the doctor recanted meaning your daughter was actually penetrated. This is really strange to me that's all I am saying. Also it really matters not what people may feel by what I am saying but I feel I have asked some legitimate question. I am not the one who has to live with what happened to Jamar Jr., you Jamar Sr., and the rest of the family do. How ever I do hope life can go on for you and your daughter what ever kind of life that may be, but I know for a fact this will never go away. I am also happy with the sentencing of Jamar Sr. Personally I wish they would have locked him up for the rest of his natural life. I also hope you and Jamar Sr. can sleep at night by what has happened. Sweet dreams. Just to be clear until your post I never heard a comment from you that's why this is very strange to me. I also hope you stick by your man after all he has done.

I am a man who will admit when he is wrong, and that's what I am doing at this time. I read the story and had to read it again. I now understand how the reports of the doctors went, but some of the other questions I posed is still a mystery to me. I will also stand by my statement I wish they would have locked Jamar Sr. up for the rest of his life, because it was your doctors opinion vs. the Er doctor. I still believe this could have been handled differently.

Very well said Tom T. Thank you for all you do here at J4C. What a horrible story this is!

First I would like to extend my heart felt sorrow over what happened to your little girl. It is my first time ever hearing about this case and I have read the postings printed thus far. It should be noted that not all information presented in court or by the media is accurate or full disclosure. I have worked with toddler and children of various ages victims of molestation and the actual perpetrators and some of the circumstances are too horrific for the average man to even fathom. It is my first time on any blog but I felt compelled to inform a population still ignorant on pedophilia that this act can be perpetrated by children against children. I can and do imagine the horror you are facing for while Pinkney Jr. is gone your daughter faces a life time of psychological and emotional scarring and the out come of this trauma is still unknown. Thus I pray that via good psychological treatment that she heals properly and has a fulfilled life.
To the victims mother I am ever so sorry for your loss. I am a mother and regardless of the circumstances, losing a child is the most devastating event that could happen in ones life and the loss of a child is both unbearable and irreplaceable. This is truly a tragedy for all parents involved.
I suspend all judgement on Pinkney Sr.. No One wakes up to such horrific news with intent to kill ones own child. This man had to be in a blind rage and torn between his bond to both children and opted to protect his youngest victim child by removing who he felt was responsible for her rape. Under these catastrophic circumstances a protective parent is capable of anything. I beg our heavenly father I am never tested that way. Please remember this man is already living in his own hell regardless of his sentencing, because he took his sons life and he seems quite cognizant of that now. Kaivey even though I'm so sorry for your daughter and what happened to her as a mother you knew exactly the state of mind of your man before he went to his son's home. He did a terrible thing and we all know this but your statements have not been proven because if they were others besides yourself would know it. That makes you feel better or justify what your man did to say this boy had intercourse with her. It was heart breaking to hear JP Sr attempted to call you after shooting his own son to tell you he had taken care of the problem. YOU AS A MOTHER should know even faced with what you were faced with the answer wasn't to kill this boy. I was abused as a child myself and I have forgiven and had a very happy life. I haven't forgotten but I did forgive. We were kids ourselves and sometimes the best decisions are not made when you are children. I wouldn't have wished this on my worst enermy. Your baby will suffer more knowing her father is away in jail and her brother KILLED in such a horrible way. GOD how can you sleep at night.

O.K. so I am sitting here watching IN SESSION on Tru tv. I am watching testimony in this case. It seems that just months before this killing Jamar Sr took out life insurance policies on both of his children. He was the beneficiary and I agree that this is not unusual as many parents have policies on their children. The amount was minimal, only $10,000 which is about what it costs in my area to hold a lower end funeral and burial. However, I just heard something very disturbing. I direct this next part to @Kaivey and ask for an explanation as she has joined this forum and went on to describe how no one knows the whole story. I ask you @Kaivey why is it the same day that this young man was savagly killed by his own father why is it that you promptly caled the insurance company trying to collect on the policy? I would venture to say this is a very inhumane act not to mention it seems it could even be considered insurance fraud as I am sure that you really wouldn't expect the insurance company to pay off on this policy where the beneficiary murdered the insured? My heart does go out to your daughter. However, I still find the actions of Jamar Sr. and yourself irreprehensible. How dare you try to profit from such tragic events. If your daughter was your main and only concern what prompted you to contact the insurance agent to try and collect on this policy?

@TT'S MOM...I was also watching Insession today, and nearly lost it when the life insurance was brought up. I actually have the exact same Life Insurance policy as Jamar Sr, and it is with Primerica-just like Jamar Sr. In his defense I will say this. He didn't go to the insurance agent and specifically purchase insurance for his son-neither did I. Just like the agent explained on the stand-when you purchase a policy for yourself they automatically offer a policy for your child for a very small amt of money a month-his was six dollars and some change. This is sold to you under the pretense of ever having to pay for your child's funeral! It's only 10k, which will barely cover the casket and funeral.To be honest with you, I thought it came with the insurance I purchased-that's how little thought I gave to it, as I found it odd to have insurance on a child. Being that Jamar Sr had a new baby, and his baby's mother already had insurance with Primerica, it makes PERFECT sense that she would want Jamar Sr to line his ducks and prepare for his daughters future.Now, for those who may ask why the daughter's mother called the insurance agent instead of Jamar Jr's mother. Well, she already knew the agent, and had a professional relationship with him, and second, Jamar Sr was the person who took out the policy, and since he was in jail, he couldn't call, and Jamar Jr is still gone, and still needs a FUNERAL! At first when I heard about the insurance, I admit, I thought what the prosecution wanted us to think-that Jamar was murdered for the piddly life insurance. Now, I believe Jamar was murdered because he disrespected his baby sister. It had nothing to do with money.
