"J.J. Johnson, Aja's father, said an OSBI agent visited his house just before 6 p.m. and told him two bodies had been found. The agent could not confirm that one of them was his daughter.

Watching television coverage today from the scene, however, Johnson said he saw a pink and blue jacket he'd purchased for his daughter — and knew she was dead.

"About three weeks ago, I started to suspect this," he said. "As a parent, you have this fire in you that burns for your kid, that fire went out.

"Johnson said he is now waiting for a call from the OSBI to identify the body of what he believes is his daughter.

New developments in the search for a 7-year-old girl from Geronimo,
Oklahoma.
Oklahoma authorities believe they have found the suspect vehicle Aja
Johnson was last seen in. The car was found at Lake Thunderbird, which
is a rural area near Norman.
Right now, Jessica Brown with the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation
said there are two bodies that have been found in and near the vehicle.
An Amber Alert was issued for Johnson after she and her step-father,
Lester Hobbs, went missing in January. Authorities believed Hobbs killed
Johnson's mother then kidnapped the little girl. They were once thought
to be headed to south Texas.
Tonya Hobbs filed a protective order against Hobbs just months before
she was murdered. The documents indicate that Lester Hobbs threatened
to kill her children with a hammer. It now appears Lester used a hammer
to kill Tonya.

Police in Oklahoma said Monday that two bodies found near a car
belonging to a man accused of killing his estranged wife and kidnapping
her 7-year-old daughter more than two months ago are likely those of the
girl and the man.Police said officers discovered the vehicle and
bodies after receiving a call about 2:45 p.m. about an abandoned car
near Oklahoma Highway 9 in southeast Norman. Police suspect the bodies
are those of 7-year-old Aja Johnson and her stepfather, Lester Hobbs."We
have no reason to believe it's not those two people," said Jessica
Brown, a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, who
added that the bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition. "We
wish it would have turned out differently."Brown said the
Oklahoma Medical Examiner's office will use fingerprints to positively
identify Hobbs and dental records may have to be used to identify the
girl. Brown characterized papers found inside the vehicle as a possible
suicide note. She said no weapon had been found and officials hadn't
immediately determined a cause of death.Hobbs and the child had
been missing since Aja's mother, Tonya Hobbs, was found dead Jan. 24
inside Lester Hobbs' motor home in Geronimo, about 100 miles southwest
of Oklahoma City. Police searched for Hobbs and the girl and an Amber
Alert was issued, but information called into authorities didn't lead to
their whereabouts.Meanwhile, Comanche County prosecutors charged
Lester Hobbs with first-degree murder for his estranged wife's killing
and with kidnapping for Aja's disappearance.Brown said
investigators don't know how long the vehicle had been at the scene, but
it could have been at least a month. The car was found well off the
road in a clearing surrounded by trees and thicket.Brown said
Hobbs, 46, lived in Norman for several years in the past and may have
been familiar with the area where the car and bodies were discovered.Brown
also said Hobbs' relatives would be questioned about whether they
helped him flee following Tonya Hobbs' killing."We have no
indication at this point in time that anyone did that," she said.

J.J. Johnson had a strong premonition that his abducted 7-year-old
daughter, Aja, was dead. On Monday, that premonition appeared correct.
The decomposing bodies of an adult and child were found in a heavily
wooded area near Lake Thunderbird.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman
Jessica Brown said agents think the remains are those of Aja and her
alleged abductor, Lester William Hobbs.Neither has been seen since Jan. 23.
"We have no reason to think it is not those two people,” Brown said at a
news conference. "We do not know the cause and manner of death yet.”
Investigators also found the white, 1992 Toyota
Paseo
at the scene — a vehicle that belonged to Aja’s mother and
Lester’s estranged wife, Tonya LeAnn Hobbs. Tonya Hobbs, 37, was found bludgeoned to death inside
Lester Hobbs’ recreational vehicle Jan. 24 in Geronimo.Agents have since suspected Lester
Hobbs
of fleeing Comanche County in that vehicle after killing his wife. An aerial view from a
television helicopter showed the vehicle in a patch of clearing in a
wooded area not far from 108th Avenue SE, just north of State Highway 9.
A dirt road trailed past the vehicle through the woods.
"An OSBI agent came to the house and told me she couldn’t positively
tell me they had found Aja,” Johnson told The Oklahoman
as television crews gathered outside his South
Oklahoma City
home. "I said, ‘I know it’s her. I saw her little
jacket on the ground on TV.’ We bought her a little blue jacket with
orange lining for the winter."I know it’s her.”
Brown described the bodies as being in "quite an extended state of
decomposition,” meaning fingerprints and dental records will be used to
make a positive identification. Authorities also found a note at the
scene. While Brown declined to say what the note said, she added that
"it does give us a glimpse of what was in Hobbs’ mind at the time.”

Johnson, meanwhile, said the wait has been tortuous."About three weeks ago, I started to suspect this,” said Johnson, who
received sole custody of his daughter after a court order in October.
"As a parent, you have this fire in you that burns for your kid, and
that fire went out."I just knew that gutless man would end up killing Aja and then himself.
I’ve known all along that he was a coward.”Tonya Hobbs petitioned for a protective order against Lester Hobbs in Lincoln
County
in August, but it was dismissed when neither showed up for a
hearing. Lester Hobbs served time in prison for assault and battery with a deadly
weapon. On the day Tonya Hobbs’ body was found, he was scheduled to appear in
court on a DWI charge, and family members said he feared he would be
returned to prison.A resident discovered the car and bodies just before 3 p.m., Norman
police spokeswoman Jennifer Newell said.Norman officers had previously investigated at least one lead that Hobbs
and the child had been spotted in Cleveland County. But Newell said, "It was not enough information to lead to
anything.”Hobbs reportedly lived in Norman and may have been familiar with the
area where his car was found, both Newell and Brown said.
"I just can’t believe this has happened,” Johnson said. "I’m numb.”

This is incredibly sad.

They haven't officially called this yet, but I'm sure, as we all are, it is Aja. I am reluctant to move this Murdered Children, it just breaks my heart to have to do so. If nobody minds, can we just leave this here for now? Just until it's official?

Of course, this is where it should be until we hear otherwise. What a coward, the only positive to come out of this is, he's headed to hell and Aja will be in heaven, he can never hurt her again.

Authorities in Oklahoma are trying to identify the remains of two
bodies found Monday to determine whether they are those of a murder
suspect and the missing 7-year-old daughter of his murdered wife,
according to investigators.
The bodies were found in a car in the woods outside Oklahoma
City, according to reports from the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation.
Authorities believe the car may have been used in the girl’s kidnapping.
Lester Williams Hobbs, 46, has been sought in the death of Tonya
Hobbs, his estranged wife, and the kidnapping of Aja Danielle Johnson,
her daughter. Hobbs and the girl were last seen in January.
Investigators said the bodies found were that of an adult and child, but
have not confirmed the identities, according to reports. The
medical examiner will use Hobbs' fingerprints and Johnson’s dental
records to help identify the bodies, reports stated. The causes
of death are still unknown. A note describing what happened was
found at the scene, but details were not released.

When Jerry Spotts set out Monday afternoon to check on property that
belongs to his wife’s family near Lake Thunderbird, he didn’t
anticipate coming upon a crime scene.
“I never expected to see anything like that out there,” Spotts said.
Spotts, a Norman resident, discovered the 1992 Toyota Paseo that
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation officials said belonged to Lester
and Tonya Hobbs. The vehicle was found in a heavily wooded acreage
north of the State Highway 9 and 108th Avenue SE intersection.
Officers with several law enforcement agencies had been searching for
Lester Hobbs, 47, and Aja Johnson, 7, since Jan. 24. Investigators have
accused Hobbs of killing his estranged wife, then kidnapping her
daughter, Aja. Two bodies believed to be Hobbs and Johnson also were
found at the scene Monday.
Spotts said he was looking for survey stakes that a surveyor was
supposed to have staked out on the property several weeks ago. As Spotts
searched for the stakes, he saw a white car he considered suspicious.
“Incidentally, the surveyor mentioned a white car was out there,” he
said. “I thought it could be a hunter.”
Spotts walked closer to the vehicle to get a better look. He said he
got within 20 feet of the car when he spotted a body lying beside the
car.
“It had to be a small individual. It was covered with a blanket. I
could see the top of the head. It was decomposed. I backed away as soon
as I saw the body,” Spotts said.
He said when he saw the car was a Toyota Paseo, he thought for a
moment it might be the vehicle associated with the Amber Alert for
Johnson.
“I called police immediately,” he said. “They came right out.”
Spotts said he met police near Highway 9. He brought the officer to
the scene using an all-terrain vehicle.
“There was a body behind the steering wheel,” Spotts said.
Spotts said the Paseo was parked next to a cedar tree in the brush.
“It was not visible from highway or land,” he said. “I was there
looking for the survey stake or I would not have seen the car.”
Spotts said there are few entrances onto the property.
People can reach the field from a gate on Highway 9 or another road
north of the highway.

Identities Confirmed; Cause and Manner TBD

Post by TomTerrific0420 on Thu Apr 01, 2010 12:46 am

The agent in charge of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s search for a missing
7-year-old girl and her alleged abductor vigorously defended the
agency’s handling of the case Wednesday even as a state lawmaker
criticized it.
Richard Goss, who leads the OSBI’s Lawton office, said
“each and every lead was followed up on and documented” as
authorities searched for Aja Johnson and her stepfather, 46-year-old Lester Hobbs.
Hobbs and the child had been missing since
Aja’s mother, Tonya Hobbs, was found dead Jan. 24 inside Lester Hobbs’
motor home in Geronimo, about 100 miles southwest of Oklahoma City.
Police searched for Hobbs and the girl and an Amber Alert was issued,
but information called into authorities didn’t lead to their
whereabouts.
Acting on a tip from a landowner, police
found the decomposing bodies of Hobbs and the girl, along with Tonya
Hobbs’ missing Toyota Paseo, on Monday in a wooded area off State
Highway 9 near Lake Thunderbird in rural Norman. Norman Master Police
Officer Jennifer Newell said that, based on the decomposition of the
bodies, they were likely at the scene for more than a month.
The state medical examiner’s office Wednesday confirmed the identity of the bodies,
although spokeswoman Cherokee Ballard said the cause and manner of death won’t be determined
until results from toxicology tests are received, which could take three to six weeks.
Newell said what authorities found in the car will be detailed when a search warrant is returned to Cleveland
County district court in the coming days.
Rep. Richard Morrissette, D-Oklahoma City, said the OSBI didn’t handle the investigation well.
“This agency is insulated from public scrutiny, and I’m beginning to wonder if that’s a serious concern here,”
Morrissette said.
“I think we need a full-fledged report on this investigation, day by day, what was going on in their agency to
find Hobbs. He was right under our nose.”
Goss said the OSBI and other law-enforcement
agencies followed up on 367 leads during the search for Hobbs and the
girl because “we were looking for the one credible sighting.”
Goss said that 18 years ago, Hobbs lived in a
mobile home about a mile from where the car and bodies were found and
that Hobbs’ parents also were buried in a nearby cemetery. He said the
cemetery was under surveillance for a time and that authorities searched
the area where Hobbs used to live three times.
Newell confirmed that a man who identified
himself as a former friend of Hobbs had called Norman police to let them
know about Hobbs’ history in the area. Newell said that man was told to
call Comanche County authorities but it’s not known if he did.
Morrissette noted the car was easily visible from the air.
“Something went wrong here,” Morrissette
said. “I want to know, who knew about the tips and when did they know
it? People around the lake ... had a suspicion (Hobbs) might be in the area.
