MARYLANE CONCEPCION - 16 yo - Oak Ridge/Orlando FL
A desperate mother says her daughter's life
is in danger after she vanished last month, but investigators believe
it's just another case of a runaway teen.
When
Marylane Concepcion(pictured left and below), 16, went to school on
January 14th, she kissed her mother and said she'd see her after ROTC
practice. But when Joshanna Vasquez, 31, went to pick her daughter up
from Oak Ridge High School, she wasn't there.
Concepcion hasn't been seen by her family since, and Vasquez hadn't heard from her until Wednesday.
"I
received an unknown call, a restricted call, it was a voice saying
"mom, help me, I need help,"" she said. She says she heard a man's
voice yell "hang up the f-ing phone," and the phone went dead.
Vasquez
said she's sure the voice pleading for help was her daughter, but she
didn't recognize the man's voice. She says it wasn't Concepcion's
biological father who she's run away to once before.
Vasquez
reported her daughter missing the day she didn't show up after school,
but now she was convinced something was terribly wrong.
Vasquez
and Concepcion's stepfather, David Anaya, 46, went back to the Orange
County Sheriff's Office with news of the alarming phone call but say
their worries were brushed aside.
"This lady that's actually taking care of this case is really not doing her job," said Anaya.
Vasquez said the investigator implied that she was lying about the phone call.
But
detectives say the threatening call was thoroughly investigated, and
Vasquez has failed to provide consistent information to further their
search.
Most importantly, they don't believe the 16 year old was
abducted. Detectives even say they recently got a tip that Concepcion
is headed to Miami with friends.
Jim Solomons with the sheriff's office says detectives work 2,500 missing persons case every year.
"We turn our attention to the cases that we believe we can solve quickly," he said.
Solomons
said the sheriff's office will continue to work on Concepcion's case
because of how quickly what's now considered a runaway teen can turn
into something much worse.
