CHAMBLEE, Ga. — Police in Chamblee say an 11-year-old boy was hospitalized after being shot in the head while he slept.
Police say the shooting happened shortly after midnight. They say several
shots were fired from the front yard into the bedroom of the victim's
16-year-old brother, and one of the bullets went into a second bedroom
where the 11-year-old was sleeping.
The 11-year-old's name has not been released. His condition was not immediately known.

Authorities say an 11-year-old boy who was shot while he slept in his bed Thursday, February 11th has died.

Chamblee Police Chief Marc Johnson says Nicholas Sheffey died
Tuesday morning at Childrens' Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish
Rite after being shot in the head by a stray bullet.
Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the shooting in Chamblee.

Johnson said charges against two suspects are being upgraded to murder and a third suspect has been charged with party to the crime of murder.

Police believe Nicholas' 16-year-old brother was the intended
target of the shooting in retaliation for a home invasion robbery
in December. Police say the suspects fired seven shots through the brother's bedroom window, but Nicholas was struck instead.

Gang Members Indicted In Chamblee Boy's Death


CHAMBLEE, Ga. -- A DeKalb County grand jury
indicted three gang members on 59 counts Tuesday in the February death
of a Chamblee boy who was struck by a bullet apparently intended for his
brother.Cody Bauer, Alexander Sidloskas and Stedmund Anthony,
who prosecutors said are members of the Crips gang, face numerous
charges, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and
multiple violations under the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and
Prevention Act.Nicholas Sheffey, 11, died in his hospital after being shot in the head on Feb. 11.According
to his mother, Deborah, the whole family was asleep early that morning,
when someone fired shots through a window of their Admiral Drive home.“It was like, boom, boom, boom. And I immediately told my husband, I said, ‘That sounded like gunshots,’” Deborah Sheffey said.She
immediately checked on her younger two sons. Nicholas was on the top
bunk. “I couldn’t get him awake. And when I tried to lift him up off of
his pillow, it was nothing but blood,” she said.Chamblee police
quickly realized the shooter was aiming for Nicholas’s 16-year-old
brother. Detectives believe it was retaliation for a drug-related home
invasion the older brother allegedly helped to commit.
