Two children listed by the National Center for Missing &
Exploited Children in a family abduction case have been found in
Memphis, police said.

Jesus Ovando Garcia, 8, and David Ovando Garcia, 5, were last seen
in Flint, Mich., last June and were believed to be in the company of
their mother, according to the national center’s Web site, missingkids.com.

The children were attending Crump Elementary School in Memphis and
were placed in the custody of the state Department of Children’s
Services, police said. Their father was expected to reunite with them.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children points to a
2002 federal Department of Justice study that found in one year that
203,900 missing children were involved in family abductions; 58,200
were victims of non-family abductions, and 115 were victims of
“stereotypical kidnappings” by strangers or slight acquaintances intent
on harming or keeping the child.
