GEBAR J BYRD Jr. - 2 yo - (2010) University City MO

Post by TomTerrific0420 on Fri Apr 16, 2010 2:45 pm

University City police are looking for an endangered two-year-old
boy after his mother's body was pulled from the Mississippi River last
week.

Investigators are looking for Gebar J. Byrd, Jr. He is 2'3" and weighs
26 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He is bi-racial, both
African-American and Hispanic.

University City police said the boy and his 24-year-old mother, Yasmin
Rodriguez, were reported missing on March 28 after family members had
not heard from Rodriguez. Police said she and the child left after a
disagreement with the boy's father at their home in the 6600 block of
Crest. Captain Michael Ransom said Rodriguez' remains were identified
Wednesday by the medical examiner's office.

"Gebar Byrd Sr. stated initially they had a verbal disagreement. He left
the residence and when he returned Yasmin and the child were missing,"
Ransom said. "He said they left a year ago similar to this and had been
gone a month and kind of traveled to relatives. So this is not out of
character for them."

Ransom was asked about the amount of time that passed before they
classified the child as missing. He said police issued the missing
persons report the day after they received the information from her
family.

"The report was pushed out immediately to all area law enforcement
agencies," Ransom said. "We were in contact with the Center for Missing
and Exploited Children. We also posted fliers in the neighborhood where
they lived, the neighborhood where her family lived, where his family
lives. So the information has been pushed out."

So when did police do that, initially?

"The next day after the missing person was reported to us," said Ransom.

Ransom said this case does not meet the criteria for an Amber or SARAA
Alert because the child left with a parent and there was no kidnapping.

Ransom said the medical examiner has not yet released a cause of death
for Rodriguez.

St. Louis police said firefighters pulled the body of Rodriguez from the
river at 1st and Mullanphy on April 9. Police said there weren't any
obvious signs of trauma on her body, but they were still waiting for the
outcome of the autopsy.

Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at
1-866-371-TIPS. All calls are anonymous.

Authorities continue to search for a missing toddler after the little
boy’s mother was found dead in the Mississippi River.

The University City Police Department is investigating the
disappearance of a two year- old child, Gebar Byrd, Jr. The child was
reported missing along with his mother on March 28, after family members
had not heard from mother.

The mother reportedly left with the child after a disagreement with
the child’s father, Gebar Byrd, Sr. at their residence in the 6600 block
of Crest Avenue in University City. The child’s father has been
cooperating with the investigation.

A body recovered from the Mississippi River on Friday, April 9 in the
City of St. Louis, was just identified Friday, April 16 as the child's
mother, Yasmin Rodriguez, 24.

Police said no exact cause of death has been determined by the St.
Louis Medical Examiner.

Police said Rodriguez was found floating in the Mississippi River and
when her body was recovered from the river there were no obvious signs
of trauma. Investigators said Friday it is unclear how her body
eventually ended up in St. Louis.

According to University City Police Capt. Michael Ransom, the missing
child’s mother was scheduled to pick up her mother on the evening of
March 23 and did not show. Her family contacted the police to file the
missing person report on March 28.

An Extensive search of the home revealed no signs of any crime.
Gerber Byrd Sr. was interviewed on March 28 and he indicated a verbal
disagreement occurred with his child’s mother and she left with the
child while he was away from residence, according to Ransom.

Interviews with family members and known associates have been
conducted and the investigation continues.

Information concerning the two missing persons was distributed to law
enforcement agencies in the Metropolitan St. Louis area to include the
Metro East, where the father has extended family, according to Ransom.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the
University City Police Department at (314) 725-2211 or Crime Stoppers at
(866) 371-TIPS or the National Center for Missing & Exploited
Children 1-800-THE-LOST.

The father of a missing two year old child from University City defends
himself. He denies allegations he had something to do with the boy's
disappearance and his mother's death. Gebar Byrd Sr. says he has not
seen his son since March 25, the same day he last saw his fiancée,
Yasmine Rodriguez. Police found her body in the Mississippi River but
have not found Gebar, Jr.

Saturday, Byrd spoke directly to the person responsible for Yasmine's
death and to anyone who knows where his son is.

"You really do need to turn yourself in to the police department, for
what you did, for the injustification that was done to my fiancée - my
lady. That was really really wrong and somebody has to answer for it.
Soembody's gonna have to answer for the justice that's gonna be done for
that."

Yasmine Rodriguez's family claims she and Byrd had a volatile six year
relationship. Byrd says he's passed three polygraph tests. Police say he
is not a suspect.

If you have any information on Gebar Byrd, Jr.'s whereabouts, you're
asked to contact University City Police at (314)725-2211.

Family members are asking tough questions regarding
the search for their 2-year-old grandson and the investigation
surrounding their daughter, Jasmin Rodriguez.
University City police sent out an alert for the missing boy after
his mother's body was found in the Mississippi River, and the family
wants to know what was behind the delay.
The grandparents say they immediately came to University City police
to report their daughter missing when they could not reach her. Police
say they had detectives working on the case full-time since the pair
disappeared, but on Monday they admitted they have no idea what happened
to Gebar Byrd, Jr., the 2-year-old boy.
The family wants St. Louis to take a good look at their grandson's
picture - they have not seen him in 23 days.
Police say they are working with the National Center for Missing and
Exploited Children, and say information about the two was not made
public sooner because there was no evidence of a crime.
Investigators are still waiting for autopsy results to find out how
Jasmin died. The focus now turns to finding Gebar.
Police say this doesn't fit the criteria for an Amber Alert - no one
witnessed the abduction. There are no suspects in the case, and Gebar's
father is cooperating with the investigation.

Is anyone searching for Gebar Byrd Jr.
by Julian Grace

Posted on April 28, 2010 at 9:20 AM
It's been 31 days since Gebar Byrd Jr. went missing.
Investigators pulled his mother's body out of the Mississippi River on
April 9th. Days and hours have passed and still no signs of Gebar. The
news of Gebar's disappearance has faded into the background. Police
have not publicly stated any significant leads in Gebar's case, nor have
there been any arrest in the death of Gebar's mother Yasmin Rodriguez.
What's going on? How long will it take? Investigators tell us
that Gebar's father is cooperating with the investigation. We have not
been made aware of any possible suspects in this case, nor do we know of
any active searches for Gebar. The National Center for Missing and
Exploited Children has been working with investigators in finding the
little two-year-old. With each day that passes we must keep this
story on the front page until Gebar Byrd Jr. is brought home.

A man was charged today with murdering his girlfriend, who was found
floating in the Mississippi River, and their young son.
Gebar Byrd Sr., 26, of the 8200 block of Monroe in St. Louis, was
charged with two counts of first-degree murder, endangering the welfare
of a child and domestic assault. He was ordered held without bond.
The charges marked the first official acknowledgment that the child,
Gebar Byrd Jr., 23 months old, is dead
.
The body of his mother, Yasmin Rodriguez, was pulled from the water on
April 9, more than a week after relatives reported her and the boy
missing from their home in the 6600 block of Crest in University City.
The child’s body has not been found.
A statement from St. Louis police said that on March 23, the suspect
pushed Rodriguez into the river, near Riverview and Spring Garden Drive,
as she held the toddler in her arms. Police said he pushed them
"through mud, branches and logs" and that "eventually, neither she nor
the baby resurfaced."

Rodriguez’s body was recovered near First Street and Mullanphy.
Officials said the arrest followed a joint investigation by St. Louis
and University City police and the FBI.
