A 13-year-old boy was charged yesterday with the fatal shooting of
his 3-year-old half brother in the family's home in southern Muskingum County.
Michael R. Hulsey Jr. was charged with delinquency counts of reckless
homicide and possession of drugs in the death of Shannon M. Harrop Jr.



The boy died Wednesday after he was struck by a shotgun blast at 1975 Back Run Rd. in Philo,
about 60 miles east of Columbus. Family members drove him to a Zanesville hospital, where he was
pronounced dead.Sheriff's Capt. Jeff LeCocq said he could not discuss the circumstances surrounding the
shooting. LeCocq referred questions to Prosecutor Michael Haddox.
The drug count alleges that Hulsey possessed or used Xanax, a prescription drug used to treat
anxiety and panic disorders. A Juvenile Court judge ordered Hulsey detained Thursday pending the
filing of charges. The 13-year-old could face commitment to a Department of Youth
Services detention facility if he is found delinquent.
A firearm specification attached to the reckless homicide count could
add up to five years to any sentence. Hulsey is too young to be charged as an adult.
Services for Shannon are scheduled for 4 p.m. today at Thompson-Farus
Funeral Home in Duncan Falls. He was the son of Brenda Lee Pletcher and Shannon M. Harrop Sr.

Teen Sentenced in Brother's Shooting Death


A 14 year old Muskingum County boy who admitted to shooting his brother to death in April receives his sentence.
Thursday, Muskingum County Juvenile Judge Joseph Gormley sentenced Michael Hulsey Junior to 2 1/2 years to be served at an Ohio Department of Youth Services Facility.
Hulsey received a 6 month sentence on charges of reckless homicide, assault and possession of drugs and 2 years on a gun specification. He could possibly remain in the center until he's 21.
Judge Gormley says Hulsey Jr. will get credit for time he has served in the Muskingum County Juvenile Detention Center since April 21.
Back in June, Hulsey Jr. admitted to the shooting death of his brother, 3 year old Shannon Harrop Jr. at their home on Back Run Road in Harrison Township
