Father: Kyron Horman Is 'Waiting To Be Found'

Kaine Horman, Daughter Move Back Into Home

POSTED: 4:39 pm PDT July 21, 2010
UPDATED: 8:50 pm PDT July 21, 2010

Excerpt:

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The father of a missing Portland boy said he wants to limit the distractions surrounding the investigation into the disappearance of his son, who he said is "waiting to be found.

"Kaine Horman's interview Wednesday was the first since he moved back into his family's northwest Portland home. A restraining ordered filed in June forced his estranged wife, Terri Horman, to move last weekend so he and the couple's 20-month-old daughter could return.

. . . .

I'm assuming that (investigators) obviously making good progress based on what I'm getting briefed on," Kaine said. "There's a lot more we can do to get his face out there. I think there's lots more opportunities to get his face out and recognized by people, especially outside the state."

PORTLAND, Ore. - There was no expectation on the part of Skyline School that Kyron Horman would be in class after the science fair the day he disappeared, according to multiple sources.

Prior to his June 4 disappearance, Kyron Horman’s stepmother, Terri Horman, informed his teacher he had a doctor’s appointment on Friday, the sources said, and it was why there was no expectation Kyron would be in class after the science fair. Once class began at 10 a.m., his teacher marked him absent.

. . . . .

“And the teacher said, ‘I thought he left with his mom,’ because they thought they had a doctor appointment,” Holm said. “And then at lunchtime, Kurtis ate lunch with him every day, he wasn’t there at lunchtime. And then I got a call at 4:30ish, saying he didn’t get off the bus, I guess. And Kurtis said, ‘Oh yeah, I knew he was already gone all day Mom.’”

I'm really befuddled about this case. Kaine says there are a lot more opportunities to get Kyron's face out and recognized by people but, they aren't giving out any info, just doesn't make any sense to me.
What is the reasoning behind him saying "get his face out & recognized by people, especially outside the state"?

i think kh really thinks he was kidnapped and th is involved and knows information that might lead them to him and whoever took him. i cannot think of any reason that he would be insisting that kyron will be coming home.

Kyron look-a-like causes confusion with Portland man traveling in Texas

Reported by: Araksya Karapetyan
Email: akarapetyan@koin.com

Last Update: 7:04 am

It's not just people in Portland or Oregon looking for Kyron - tips come in from around the country.

A local Portland man was recently traveling through Texas with his grandson and says he was stopped because the 11-year-old looks like Kyron.

Richard Blashill was traveling from Amarillo to El Paso on Monday with his 11-year-old grandson and daughter-in-law.

Blashill says he stopped at a convenience store for a few minutes and remembers there was a lady who wouldn't stop staring at him.

He couldn't figure out why, so they continued on.

The next thing he knows, police are pulling him over, asking him questions about Kyron Horman.

"They showed him (his grandson) a picture of Kyron and asked is that you? And he said 'no, that's not me' and they said why do you say that, and he pointed out two or three things, the widows peak on his head and the color of his eyes."

Blashill says the three of them were interrogated for close to two hours.

Ann Rule Called the Hormans Within Two Weeks of Kyron’s Disappearance

7:00 AM July 22nd, 2010 by James Pitkin

Law-enforcement sources have compared the Kyron Horman case to that of Diane Downs, the Oregon woman who shot her three children in 1983.

Ann Rule, the true-crime author who wrote the book on the Downs case, has already weighed in on Kyron’s disappearance.

And Oregonian columnist Anna Griffin wagers Rule is angling to write a book on the Kyron case as well.

Turns out Griffin is right. And Rule wasted no time in singling out the case for attention.

Kyron’s mom, Desiree Young, confirms to WW that Rule called the family just two weeks after Kyron’s June 4 disappearance. That was around the exact time we broke the story that investigators were focusing on Kyron’s stepmom, Terri Moulton Horman.

Young says the family spoke with Rule about the case during one phone conversation. Rule hasn’t called back since, Young says. The author told KOIN 6 she’s awaiting the outcome of the case to determine whether she wants to write a book.

On Tuesday, a judge set a hearing for July 22 over the restraining order.
Attorney Stephen Houze said Terri agreed to move out, give up rights to
custody, but the hearing will address financial and other issues. A
date of September 21 was set aside for the contempt of court hearing.

Multnomah
County Sheriff Dan Staton delays request for extra money

Multnomah County commissioners
today approved a much pared-down $196,034
request for additional funding to help prosecutors continue their
criminal investigation into the June 4 disappearance of 7-year-old Kyron
Horman.

County Sheriff Dan Staton reversed course today,
deciding to put off for four months his request for additional money
from the county contingency fund, and instead find resources within his
own budget.

He tabled his request for $242,609 to hire a
one-year investigative technician and to cover four months of overtime,
from July through October, and will instead try to absorb the costs
within his department's budget. If the costs exceed the budget, he'll
return to the board this fall.

So Ovie if the sheriff was looking for $242.609 to cover July through October, doesn't this sound to you like they have no idea where Kyron is, as that seems like a long time.

Re: KYRON HORMAN - 7 yo (2010) - Portland OR - Thread #2

A prosecutor and a county sheriff investigating the
disappearance of a 7-year-old boy went to county commissioners
Thursday to discuss funding for the probe, but dodged questions
about whether they are close to making an arrest.
Multnomah County commissioners approved District Attorney
Michael Schrunk's request for an extra $196,000 for his office's
investigation into Kyron Horman's disappearance. But, in an
unexpected move, Sheriff Dan Staton tabled a separate request for
about $240,000 in additional funding for his office until October.
Staton said the sheriff's office will return $500,000 in
contingency funding approved last month and another $400,000 from
the last budget after his agency was able to hold down costs.
Staton and Schrunk went to commissioners to talk about funding
in their effort to find Kyron, last seen at Skyline School on June
4, when his stepmother took him to a science fair. Though the case
has gripped the community, the cost of finding Kyron is an issue
for the cash-strapped government.
Commissioner Deborah Kafoury asked why this particular case is
getting so much attention from law enforcement when there are other
missing children: "Is this really that unusual?"
"Yes, it is an unusual case," Schrunk said. "I think you have a
lot of different dynamics. You have a school. You have a science
fair. You have a lot of people involved. And you have seemingly no
explanation for why the child is missing."
Staton, who said the case has so far cost $365,000, said
investigators have seized 200 sets for records and are sifting
through the 3,000 leads that have been generated.
"We currently have 38 full, 4-inch binders on this
investigation, and we're not even halfway through at this
particular point," he said.
Staton later told reporters not to take Thursday's action - in
which the prosecutors needed money and his office didn't - as a
sign that an arrest was near.
Staton said investigators have not found any items that belong
to Kyron, and again declined to name the stepmother, Terri Moulton
Horman, as a person of interest in the investigation.
Terri Horman, who has raised Kyron since he was an infant, is
the last known person to have seen the boy. She contacted the
elementary school when Kyron didn't come home from school on the
day of the science fair.
The sheriff's office conducted a massive search of the area
before declaring the case a criminal investigation on June 14.
The boy's father, Kaine Horman, left Terri Horman about two
weeks later. He also filed a restraining order in which he said he
believes Terri Horman was involved in the disappearance.
Kaine Horman and Kyron's biological mother, Desiree Young, have
since publicly urged Terri Horman to fully cooperate with investigators.
The sheriff said the stepmother, who has moved 175 miles away,
has "not refused" any requests from his detectives.
