The ALI-NASIR Children - 15, 13 and 12 yo - Jackson TN
A Jackson couple has been charged with aggravated domestic assault and
child abuse after their children told police the father beat his
15-year-old daughter for playing with some boys in the parking lot of
their north Jackson apartment complex, according to an affidavit.
Police first began investigating the incident when Ramazan Ali
reported his two children — a 13-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy —
missing on Wednesday afternoon. Ali told police the children ran away
from home around 8 p.m. Tuesday evening after they were scolded,
according to a news release from the Jackson Police Department.
The children were found a short time later at a church near their home
in the 3200 block of North Highland Avenue. But
officers involved in the case thought the circumstances were
suspicious, the news release said. Investigators and workers with the
Department of Children's Services talked with the children, who told
them they ran away after seeing their older sister bound and beaten. The
affidavit says the incident began with Ali came home and saw his
15-year-old daughter playing with some boys in the parking lot. The
15-year-old ran to hide in her room, followed by the two younger children.Ali went
into the 15-year-old's room, pulled her out by her hair and started
hitting her on her back with his shoe, the affidavit says.He
then told his wife, Suad Nasir, to get duct tape and wire. Nasir got
the items and helped her husband bind the girl's hand and tape her
mouth, the affidavit says.Ali
then hit the girl with a coaxial cable and hit her face with his hands,
the affidavit says. Investigators saw bruises on the girl's face, it
says. The two younger children told police they climbed out of a window and ran away
when they saw their sister being beaten. After they left, Nasir
threatened to cut off the 15-year-old's hair if she did not tell her
where the two went, the affidavit says. The
three children involved in the incident and a 16-year-old have been
placed in the Department of Children's Services custody temporarily
while the investigation continues, the news release said.Calista
Doll, a DCS spokeswoman, declined to comment on whether the family had
previously been investigated by the department. Doll also declined to
say whether the children had been placed with other family members.Neighbors
in the apartment complex where the family lived said they saw the
children playing outside frequently but did not see the parents often.Ali
and Nasir were arraigned in Jackson City Court Thursday morning and
each are being held on a $50,000 bond. Their next court appearance is
scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
