I find it interesting that he's described as a "gamer". IMHO, the "realism" of some of todays' video games has blurred the line between fantasy and reality and that's why there's such a dichotomy in this suspects' personality. This heinous act wasn't real to him. He could just hit the "reset" button and start a new game. That's exactly what he did when the crime was completed.

It's a topic worth discussing Tom. Personally, I don't think it has any affect on a normal child. My son and his friends like millions of todays kids are into gaming but are not even remotely violent. Maybe it possibly exacerbates someone prone to violence though. In this particular case this was a sex crime so not related to gaming IMO. I agree with your statement that he looks pure evil.

Oh, there is no doubt in my mind, my island friend that this was a sex crime through and through. My point is that whatever the nature of the act, in the suspects' mind, this was a "not really happening" event. I may date myself, but when I was just a tad younger we had pac-men and pac-women gobbling up dots, goofy spaceships that would be shot from the air before shooting us, frogs that would traverse the creek by hopping on alligator-free logs...etc. etc.
IMHO opinion there is a direct relation to the realism of todays' games and the violent streak in many of our youth,
I agree with you, for some there is no effect. Kind of like me and a blood curdling slash-fest horror movie. As a viewer I see it as a fantasy with great special effects. To some it is as real, and as exciting, as if they were holding the chainsaw, blade or gun themselves.

Maybe it feeds their violent fantasies in some cases much like watching porn for a pedophile.

Tom LE are wondering too
TACOMA, Wash. -- Detectives investigating the strangulation death of 16-year-old Kimmie Daily are trying to determine whether her accused killer might have been acting out a violent fantasy from Dungeons and Dragons.

The
video game theory comes from something Tyler Savage himself said to
investigators. He talked about playing a video game to cope with what
he'd just done. Detectives now want to know if that game somehow became
his point of reference on reality.

Magic and swordplay is present
in the violent fantasy landscape that makes up the online game.
Investigators said it's the game Savage played after raping and killing a
mentally disabled neighbor.

Savage has confessed to the killings. He told detectives he saw Daily on her bicycle and convinced
her to follow him into a vacant lot where he attacked and killed her.

"His criminal history went from 0 to 100 miles an hour with one crime," said Prosecutor Mark Lindquist.

A former classmate said Savage seemed like any other teen.

"I don't believe he went out onto the streets with the intention of
killing somebody. he wasn't that kind of person," said Rusty Sebring. "I
have no idea what his home life was like or what he could have possibly
been going through at this time to have left him in such a mentally
unstable state."

Savage's previously-clean record has detectives
wondering what set him off to allegedly murder a girl with mental
disabilities. One theory is something Savage told them about: his
passion for video games, and how they help him cope.

"The defendant admitted some kind of connection between the murder and the
video game," Lindquist said. "I'm not clear at this point what exactly
that connection is. The defendant himself said he went to play video
games to forget."

Savage's defense attorney calls the video game connection pure speculation and a rush to judgment.

"What if there's a chemical or organic imbalance or something physically
wrong, identifiably medically wrong with his brain that caused this to
happen?" said defense attorney Jay Berneburg.

Detectives are working with an expert in sexually violent fantasies to explore the
video game motive, but the true cause for this crime is still unknown.
They aren't blaming a game for this violence, but they are trying to
understand what triggered this murder and why.

Kimmie Daily never could pick a favorite color. She liked them all. “She was kind of a rainbow,” Sheri Potter said Wednesday, quoting Kimmie’s father, Cecil.Potter
had wanted a rainbow made of balloons for Kimmie’s funeral, but had to
settle for two bouquets of colored balloons. She tied them to the teen’s
casket.“I thought she would like it,” she said.
Potter was handing out white, yellow and pink roses to those who came
to Calvary Community Church in Sumner to celebrate the life of
16-year-old Kimberly Lucille Pearl Daily.“Cecil wanted everyone to have a rose,” Potter said. More
than 600 people, including a contingent of Rogers High School
classmates, teachers and fellow Special Olympics athletes nearly filled
the large sanctuary. Kimmie disappeared from home Aug. 17. Her
body was found a week later in a blackberry patch eight blocks from her
Puyallup South Hill home. An 18-year-old neighbor was arrested in her
death.Potter came from Centralia to Puyallup with members of the
Lindsey Baum Search Center to help search for Kimmie and stayed on to
help the family with the funeral. The center is named for the
10-year-old McCleary girl who disappeared from her home in June 2009 and
hasn’t been found.Despite the grief and confusion spawned by her
tragic death, the Rev. Mark Edwards said the funeral service was not a
time to dwell on death but to honor a friend whose life overflowed with
love for everyone around her.“She lived a life of complete
unconditional love,” Edwards said. “Love for God, love for her dad and
her grandparents, love toward her friends and those she would meet for
the first time.”There was no shortage of friends who came forward to share stories of the teen’s special ways and her love.“Kimmie
was indeed exceptional,” said her next-door neighbor, Marshelle Rodin.
“She knew the true meaning of life. It wasn’t in winning but rather in
trying. It wasn’t what you have but what you achieved.”Her way with life made every day special, Rodin said. “She
made sure you knew you were important and that hugs can cure almost
everything that ails you,” she explained. “She held fast to the idea
that there is good in everyone.”Kimmie loved dogs, laughing and
playing hard, especially basketball. Sleep-overs with popcorn and soda
were special times. She was a member of the Rogers High School Special
Olympics basketball team. She was small – 4 feet 9 and less than 100
pounds – and fast. Joshua Wojtala, 21, joined members of the team in wearing the team jersey Wednesday.“I love her so much,” he said shyly. Holding
back tears, Asha Taft, 15, said she had known Kimmie as a friend since
kindergarten. Taft said she hated when fellow students made fun of her
friend.“So many people judged her before they knew her,” Taft
said. “She was the best friend anyone could have. I wish more people
could have gotten to know her. Your death affected all of Puyallup. …
The skies are darker without you.”Julie Smith, another classmate, said Kimmie was the kind of person you knew you could talk to in a tough time. “It’s going to be hard letting go of her,” Smith said, raising her arms and voice. “Kimmie, we all love you, girl.”Sarah Verhaaren, 16, remembered Kimmie’s smile and hugs. She read a poem she wrote for her friend that said, in part:“The moon was her smile, the stars her eyes. The warmth in her hugs made hearts sigh.Kimmie Daily captured our hearts and refuses to leave. We all love her so much, but from this pain there is no relief.”Rogers
counselor Mark Cooksley noted several educators from the Puyallup
School District were in the church and wanted to speak but were too
broken-hearted to come forward. He said Kimmie not only put a lot of
work into her schooling but also into being friendly to other students. “She
would stop to say hi to you because you were a friend and someone she
knew,” he said. “That was more important than getting to where she
wanted to go.”Edwards said the message he takes away from
Kimmie’s life is the love her family and friends poured into her simply
filled her up.“And what goes in leaks out,” the pastor said.Proof
of that message was in the nine-minute video of Kimmie’s life. Still
photos showed her from her birth to her junior prom and back again. Her smile never wavered.

Kimmie's alleged killer to avoid a possible death sentence

Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said today he will not seek the death penalty for a young man accused of killing a developmentally disabled South Hill girl.
Tyler W. Savage, 18, is charged with aggravated first-degree murder in Kimberly “Kimmie” Daily’s death. Prosecutors allege Savage strangled the 16-year-old girl Aug. 17 during the course of or after raping her. They contend he lured her to a vacant lot then concealed her body after attacking her.
He’s pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail in the Pierce County Jail.
Aggravated first-degree murder is the state’s highest crime, punishable only by death or life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“Mr. Savage committed a horrible crime against a vulnerable victim, and we will be seeking a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole,” Lindquist said in an e-mail to The News Tribune. “The defendant’s age – he had just turned 18 at the time of the crime – and his lack of criminal history made him an unlikely candidate for the death penalty, which is generally reserved for the worst of the worst in Washington State.”
Savage is scheduled to go to trial in September.

OLYMPIA -- The father of a Puyallup girl raped and murdered in 2010 made an emotional plea to lawmakers Friday to expand Washington's Amber Alert system.

Cecil Daily, father of Kimmie Daily, said Kimmie's Law would save lives, even thought it wouldn't have saved his daughter.

Kimmie, 16, vanished in August of 2010. Cecil panicked because he knew Kimmie had the mind of a 10-year-old. Police considered Kimmie a runaway and wouldn't help until she had been missing for 24 hours.

"That first night me and my next door neighbor spent the whole night searching the whole neighborhood," he recalls.

Currently, Amber Alerts are only issued when someone under the age of 18 is known to have been abducted. Under Kimmie's Law, Amber Alerts would go out six hours after anyone with a health, mental or physical disability goes missing, no matter their age.

A week after her disappearance, Kimmie's body was found. She was killed within an hour of going missing. But Cecil wants to change the system for other families who care for the disabled.

"I think it would give them more of a comfort," said Cecil, "just knowing there's help out there."

Kimmie alleged killer, Tyler Savage, is scheduled to face trial in March. Savage could be sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole if convicted.
