GREAT BEND — Alicia DeBolt was remembered this morning as a kind, caring and loving person who saw kindness and beauty in everyone.

About 700 people gathered at the First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend for a memorial service for the 14-year-old.

Alicia was remembered for her love of clothes and her tendency to speak her mind and operate on her own time.

"She was stubborn as a mule," said the Rev. Kyle Ermoian.

A relative who was not identified read a poem during the service that Alicia had written entitled "Don't be sad when I die."

It starts:

"When tomorrow starts without me and I am not there to comfort you, please know that I still love you and because I know you love me too."

The service was followed by a slide show of Alicia's life.

There were six large floral bouquets at the front of the church and a large portrait of Alicia. In the foyer were more photographs and a display of sandals and shoes she had worn.

Her family said that she loved clothing and loved putting sparkly sequins on clothing items. She also loved her name and loved to write it on everything, they said.

She spent her last day shopping for clothes in Wichita and ate her last meal at her favorite restaurant, the Olive Garden.

DeBolt was reported missing Aug. 22. Her burned body was found Aug. 24.

In a statement from the family after the service, it said it "would like to thank our community and beyond for their show of support and acts of kindness that have given us strength to face the unimaginable. The kindness from those who knew Alicia and those who didn't has been incredible. Our family is getting through this with the grace of God and the love of a close family and friends."

Kansas Attorney General to dicuss DeBolt murder investigation Tuesday


(GREAT BEND, Kan.) —

Kansas Attorney
General Steve Six will be in Great Bend Tuesday. He'll talk about the
investigation into the murder of 14-year-old Alicia DeBolt.
A hearing has been scheduled for nine
o'clock for Adam Longoria. He's the person of interest in the case.
Longoria is being held on $150,000 bond on unrelated charges.
The 36-year-old was arrested more
than a week ago driving an SUV reported stolen from the same asphalt
company in Great Bend, where Alicia DeBolt's charred body had been
discovered.

GREAT BEND — Adam Longoria, 36, has been charged with capital murder in the death of 14-year-old Alicia DeBolt. He appeared this morning in Barton County District Court.

Longoria had been named a “person of interest” in the Great Bend teens' death. He also was charged with one count of criminal sodomy. His bond was set at $1.5 million.

Longoria has been living in Great Bend since being released from a Texas prison in May.

Alicia's burned body was found at an asphalt plant where Longoria worked, more than two days after she was last seen leaving her Great Bend home and getting into a darker colored SUV.

Hearings set for man charged in Great Bend girl's death

GREAT BEND – A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 18 in Barton County District Court for the man charged with capital murder in the death of a 14-year-old Great Bend girl.

Adam Longoria, 36, is accused of sexually assaulting and killing Alicia DeBolt, whose burned body was found Aug. 24 at a Venture Corp. asphalt plant southwest of Great Bend where Longoria had worked.

Longoria, who remains in the Barton County jail on $1.5 million bond, is also charged with criminal sodomy, vehicular burglary and theft. He’s accused of stealing a Venture Corp. vehicle Aug. 27 to flee the area before being arrested the same day by the Kansas Highway Patrol on I-70 southwest of Salina.

The Kansas Death Penalty Defense Unit is representing Longoria, as the murder charge carries a potential death sentence.

Another hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 21 to address motions in the case prior to Longoria’s preliminary hearing, according to Gavin Young, a spokesperson for the Kansas Attorney General’s Office.

GREAT BEND, Kan. (AP) — A lawyer for a Kansas man accused of killing a teenage girl wants the case dropped, saying jail officials improperly recorded and listened to a phone call from the suspect to his attorney's office.

A motion to dismiss the charges against 36-year-old Great Bend resident Adam Joseph Longoria is among several defense filings in Barton County District Court.

Longoria is charged with capital murder and criminal sodomy in last month's killing of 14-year-old Alicia DeBolt, also of Great Bend.

The dismissal motion was filed Monday. Prosecutors had not filed a response as of Wednesday, and a gag order bars them from discussing the case.

Longoria's attorney argues that if the court refuses to dismiss the case, it should at least bar the state from seeking the death penalty.

WHAT???!!!! This has GOT to be one of the most HORRIFIC crimes I've read about. How the F could anyone let this ANIMAL go free????? Would they want him walking around THEIR neighborhood??? BOY this makes me angry. I sure hope the locals are boiling mad about this too

It would be scary if this guy got away with this and was amongst the community SoCal. How is it his lawyer can run his mouth off to the press when there is a gag order?
