KAYDIN MATHISSON - 2 yo (2008) - Fort Meyers FL
The woman charged in one of the most horrific
cases of child abuse in Lee County history entered a plea of no contest
in court Monday.
Rosemary Kunz pleaded no contest to aggravated child abuse of the boy that was in her care, Kaydin Mathisson.
After her arrest in November 2008, Kunz told
detectives she hit her stepson, tripped him, and knocked him
unconscious. She went as far as to say she was "addicted to abusing him"
and that she "liked to see him cry."
Kaydin Mathisson was 2 years old when he was
hospitalized. Doctors had to remove part of his skull because of
swelling in his brain.
His skull was successfully reattached in May.
Kaydin is now 4-years-old and attends Voluntary Pre-K.
Kaydin continues to see doctors and meet with therapists, but otherwise is a happy, healthy 4-year-old.
Kunz will spend 18 years in prison.
Kaydin's parents are pleased with the resolution
of the case. They know their son faces a lifetime of hardships, but are
grateful he is alive.
In the next few days, Kunz will be transported to a
facility in Broward County where she will be interviewed by the Florida
Department of Corrections. They will determine where she will serve her
sentence.
