A Fayetteville woman charged with the death of her boyfriend's
two-year-old son pleaded not guilty during her formal arraignment in a
Washington County court Wednesday morning.



Amber Drain, 22, was arrested and charged with Capital Murder last month
after police say she confessed to slapping her boyfriend's son,
Dominick Doss, twice and slamming his head on the bedroom floor. Drain
told investigators the baby wouldn't stop crying.

Drain says after the incident, she tried to go to a neighbor's apartment
to call 911 but no one answered the door. According to police reports,
Drain put the boy back in his bedroom and his sibling found the baby
unconscious later that morning.

Her next hearing is scheduled for November Fourth in front of Circuit Judge William Storey.

A capital murder trial for a Fayetteville woman accused of killing a two-year-old boy has been rescheduled.

Amber Drain, 22, was scheduled to appear Washington County Court Tuesday morning.

Police believe Drain killed two-year-old Dominick Doss in July 2010.  Detectives said Drain told them she slapped Doss and swung him by the ankles before hitting his head against the floor when he wouldn't stop crying.

A state medical examiner’s report said Doss suffered two skull fractures and a swollen brain.
There’s no word yet on the new trial date.

Woman Pleads Guilty in Fayetteville Toddler's Death

In a plea deal Thursday, Amber Drain of Fayetteville pleaded guilty to first degree murder in the death of her boyfriend’s 2-year-old son Dominick Doss.

She has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, according to the Washington County prosecutor’s office. Drain had previously been charged with capital murder.

Doss died from skull fractures and swelling on the brain at a local hospital, shortly after police responded to the home on W. 24th Street on July 18, 2010. Fayetteville officers arrested Drain after she confessed to slapping the child and slamming his head against the bedroom floor because the toddler wouldn’t stop crying.
