The Shreveport Police department has charged the mother who left her children home alone this weekend.

Satonia Small, DOB 2-14-1975
has been charged with cruelty to a juvenile after police learned she
left her kids at home alone while she went to a club.

Sometime Saturday night after
9:00 PM Small left her two children ages 6 and 7 home alone in their
apartment, while she went out to the club. While the children were
unattended a fire broke out in the apartment.

The 7 year old was able to
jump out of a second story window to safety. The 6 year old was trapped
in the house and was rescued by fire department personnel. She was not
breathing and unresponsive, but after several minutes was she was
resuscitated and transported to LSU-HSC.

the girl has under gone
several procedures and is currently in critical condition at LSU. Small
has been arrested and booked into the city jail for the charge of
Cruelty to Juveniles. Charges will be reevaluated depending on the
status of her 6 year old daughter.

Sentencing has been postponed for a woman convicted in the death of her 6-year-old daughter.
Jurors last month found 34-year-old Satonia Small guilty of
second-degree murder after leaving the little girl and her 7-year-old
son alone at home in 2008 while she went out drinking with friends.
While she was gone, a fire started in the home and the boy managed to
jump to safety. The girl, She'je'berne, though rescued from the flames, later died of
smoke inhalation.
Small, who faces up to life in prison, was to be sentenced Wednesday,
but District Judge Mike Pittman delayed the hearing until Sept. 13 at
the request of her new attorney, Elton Richey.
Richey says he is researching whether there are grounds for him to ask for a new trial.
