Tampa police are investigating the death of a two-year-old boy who died on Monday, September 6. According to reports, someone told authorities the child, Yandel J. Martinez, reportedly fell down a flight of stairs and stopped breathing.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene at 4018 N Howard Ave, the child was transported to St. Joseph’s hospital where he was pronounced dead.
An official cause of death has not been released. Tampa police are investigating the death.

Tampa Man Charged In Toddler's Death



TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ― A Tampa man has been charged in the death of his girlfriend's toddler.

Police charged 27-year-old Wilfredo Reyes on Thursday with first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse.

Officials say 2-year-old Yandel Martinez died on the night of Sept. 6. Reyes initially reported that the boy had fallen down the stairs and stopped breathing, but a preliminary autopsy revealed the boy had died from blunt trauma to the abdomen. Police say Reyes later acknowledged striking the boy.

A completed autopsy and toxicology tests, released this week, determined Yandel's death was not accidental.

Reyes was being held without bail.
