A man remains in jail on Saturday on suspicion he killed his estranged wife’s 2-year-old child and a 62-year-old relative of the victims.
Justin Ouimet, 24, confessed to the homicides, the Sparks Police Department reported.
Ouimet was booked on suspicion of two counts of murder with a deadly weapon, attempted burglary with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon and arson.
Sparks police went to at home at 320 I St. at about 1:30 p.m. on a report of a stabbing and a fire. Fire crews quickly put out the fire and police discovered Lana Stone, 62, and Connor Lawrence, 2, dead inside. It appears they suffered wounds from an edged instrument, police said.Police said the mother of the dead child had returned home from work and found the bodies. Her estranged husband, Ouimet, was considered a person of interest, police said.Police then learned that someone with a knife had tried to break into Stone’s home — she did not live at the I Street residence — and a witness got a license plate that connected that suspect to Ouimet.Police issued an attempt to find Ouimet and the vehicle he was believed to be driving. He was located in Hidden Valley, police said.He was picked up on the attempted burglary allegation and on traffic charges and taken to the Sparks Police Department, where he confessed to both murders, police said.Police got search warrants and continue to investigate the case.

Gammick Files for Death Penalty in Sparks Double Murder
District Attorney Dick Gammick filed his intention to seek the death penalty Friday morning for accused double-murderer Justin Ouimet.



SPARKS, NV - District Attorney Dick Gammick filed his intention to seek the death penalty Friday morning for accused double-murderer Justin Ouimet.

Justin Ouimet, 24, is in court for the gruesome stabbing deaths of his wife's 2-year-old son, Connor Lawrence and the boy's 62-year-old great-grandmother, Lana Stone.

Ouimet was arraigned in District Court earlier this week and invoked his right to a speedy trial. The trial is set to commence May 2.

It happened September 17, 2010 when police say the toddler’s mother arrived from work at her home on "I" Street and found the bodies of her son and grandmother. Stone had been babysitting the boy. There was also a small fire in the home.

Police quickly determined they needed to find Ouimet, the mother's estranged husband. They tracked him down in Hidden Valley and questioned him. He's charged with two counts of murder with a deadly weapon, arson, and other charges.

Police say Ouimet confessed at the time of the murders, and they found evidence linking him to the killings.
