Melbourne man jailed for abusing children

A Melbourne man who "felt a thrill" during a 10-year sexual abuse of his friend's children has been jailed for six years.

Neale Martin Ross, 48, molested four girls, including one who was aged four years, on numerous occasions including visits they made to his home in Melbourne's east, the Victorian County Court heard on Wednesday.

Ross, himself a father of two, pleaded guilty to six counts of sexually penetrating a child under 16 and 15 counts of
committing an indecent act with a child under 16.

He told police he "felt a thrill" when he abused the children, who were aged between four and 15 years, and had a "fatal attraction" to them.

Judge Christopher O'Neill said such offending was "abhorrent" and led to long term damage to children and their families.

He said the victim impact statements made "chilling reading" and highlighted the emotional damage caused.

"It is a serious aggravating feature that the victims were all children and aged between four and 15," Judge O'Neill said.

He ordered Ross serve a non-parole period of four years.

Ross, who will be a registered sex offender for life, has already spent 317 days in custody.

Sexual Predator Sentenced To 30 Years

TAMPA, Fla. -- A Tampa man who prosecutors said molested two girls to produce child pornography has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

State Circuit Judge Chet Tharpe sentenced 59-year-old Michael Kelley Wednesday after Kelley pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and molesting the girls, who were then 7 and 10 years old.

Sheriff's deputies who raided Kelley's home in January found hundreds of photos and videos of children engaging in sex, some as young as age 2.

The girls Kelley victimized were identified. Authorities said they are teenagers now and are recovering. Kelley was one of 29 people arrested in a recent child pornography sweep in the Tampa area.

Sex offender arrested at Carrboro school

Carrboro, N.C. — Carrboro police said Monday that a Chapel Hill man violated his sex offender status restrictions after he was seen at McDougle Middle School twice in one week.

A school resource officer received a report on Feb. 23 that Stephen Ross Pickard, of 2119 Clover Garden CH Road in Chapel Hill, was spotted on school property, police said.

While that investigation was ongoing, Pickard was found at the school Monday and arrested.

Pickard was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in 2000. He was charged with two counts of being on school property in violation of his sex offender status restrictions.

He was taken to the Orange County jail, where bond was set at $100,000.

VIERA— During a recorded interview with police, former public school principal and Brevard Community College employee James Wright-Roberts admitted to performing oral sex on two sisters, both younger than 10.

The tape was played during a bond hearing Friday afternoon at the Moore Justice Center. Wright-Roberts also acknowledged forcing one of the girls to perform oral sex on him numerous times during the course of three years.

"It got out of hand," the 63-year-old Melbourne Beach man can be heard saying on the audio tape where he also told police he had "no control" and inquired about getting help.

Circuit Judge David Dugan ordered Wright-Roberts to be held at the county jail with no bond until his trial. "The state has met its burden," Dugan said. "Clearly, no bond is appropriate."

During the 75-minute hearing, Melbourne Beach Detective Melanie Griswold told the court that two other potential victims have come forward. Both said they were sexually abused by Wright-Roberts while they were young girls in Michigan.

According to the local victims' mother, a Palm Bay woman, Wright-Roberts befriended the family several years ago and came to be a grandfather figure to the two young children. The woman, whose name is being withheld by FLORIDA TODAY to protect the identity of the underage victims, said they had grown so close that she allowed Wright-Roberts to baby-sit the girls at his condominium every other weekend.

During the hearing, the victim's mother described how her daughters confessed what he had done to them.

"They said he tried to penetrate them," the mother said. "He showed them porno movies. They told me about the videos they had seen in Jim's house. They started crying and told me they were scared."

After contacting police, the girl's mother was instructed to call Wright-Roberts on the telephone while they recorded the conversation.

Part of that tape was played in court Friday as well.

"I went too far," he said on the tape. "I never intended to hurt those girls."

Prosecutor Julia Lynch, of the sex crimes division, called Wright-Roberts a "danger to the community."

"In his own words, he cannot control himself," she said.

Wright-Roberts was suspended without pay from his post at a computer lab for BCC shortly after his arrest in December.

German man admits fathering stepdaughter's children

A 48-year-old German man admitted being the father of his stepdaughter's eight children Tuesday, but denied he had sexually abused her, a German court official said.

The man, identified only as Detlef S., is on trial in Koblenz, Germany, charged with the sexual abuse of dependents and facilitating the sexual abuse of minors.

He is accused of hundreds of incidents of sexual abuse of his daughter, his stepdaughter and his stepson between autumn 1987 and summer 2010.

Kingston man gets more than 5 years in prison for molestation

A Kingston man was sentenced to more than five years in prison Monday for sexual abusing three children.

PORT ORCHARD — A Kingston man was sentenced to more than five years in prison Monday for sexual abusing three children.

Mark J. Bethea, 36, had pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree child molestation before Kitsap County Superior Court Judge M. Karlynn Haberlysentenced him to five years, eight months in prison. That was the top of the sentencing range available.

Bethea will serve at least 68 months in prison. After that time, a sentencing review board will decide if he should be released.

Haberly noted that he’ll be under the eye of the state Department of Corrections for the rest of his life: "We’ll know where he is and what he’s doing."

One of the victims told Haberly that her self-worth has been obliterated and she doesn’t believe any amount of counseling will help her recover.

"My innocence is something I’ll never get back," she said.

The first victim to accuse Bethea told authorities that he abused her for two or three years until she was in the fourth grade.

Two more victims came forward after Bethea was arrested in September 2010.

All three described Bethea as close to their families. Bethea’s victims included two girls and a boy.

One said Bethea had supplied him with alcohol and drugs.

Before sentencing, a parent of one of the victims said her child had suffered breakdowns and will endure years of counseling to cope with the abuse.

Another parent said he had trusted Bethea as a "man who would protect my child." "These poor children have suffered enough," the man told Haberly. "This monster needs to go away."

Bethea’s sister also addressed the judge. She told Bethea that although he was sexually abused as a child, "you went down that path" and chose to victimize others.

Defense attorney Tina Robinson said her client took responsibility soon after being charged and "he welcomes getting help."

Bethea chose not to speak at sentencing.

"I think he should spend the rest of his life in jail," added one friend of the family, "Because that’s how long the kids are going to suffer."

Charges: Man abused cousins after their mother's death

MINNEAPOLIS -- A 29-year-old man from Minneapolis is accused of sexually abusing two of his cousins after their mother's death in 2003, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday in Hennepin County District Court.

Valenzeo Delrentus Brent was charged with 10 counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct. Police arrested him Wednesdaynight and is being held in Hennepin County Jail on a $500,000 bail.

The complaint states Minneapolis Police and Hennepin County Child Protection received report that two children, a sister and brother, had been sexually abused by their maternal cousin for several years.

The female victim kept the sexual assaults hidden until she was so distraught by them over the years that she was having troubles in school, the complaint states.

The siblings told authorities they moved to Minneapolis with Brent's mother after their mother died in 2003. Brent lived with the two siblings in a home on the 3500 block of Dupont Ave. in Minneapolis.

The female victim told authorities the abuse happened almost daily from 2003 until Brent left the home in 2008. She also reported that she witnessed her brother getting sexually assaulted. The male victim told police Brent would take off his clothes, touch him inappropriately and give him candy if he complied.

In jail on child porn charges, St. Petersburg man now accused of sexually battering two boys

ST. PETERSBURG — A 45-year-old St. Petersburg man arrested in February on child porn charges is now accused of sexually battering two young boys over a period of several years, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

William McArthur Myers faces two charges of capital sexual battery. He has been in the Pinellas County Jail since Feb. 8 after the FBI arrested him on charges of possession and distribution of child pornography.

Deputies said Myers abused the two unidentified boys between 2003 and 2009. One of the victims, now 13, was abused multiple times from age 5 to 11; the other victim, now 12, was abused once at age 8, authorities said.

Deputies said Myers knew both of the boys, who knew each other.

The Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Children Unit began investigating allegations raised against Myers on Feb. 23 after the 13-year-old boy told a friend about the incidents. The friend told an adult, who then told authorities.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the suspect had been arrested by the FBI on child porn charges.

A GRANDFATHER who regularly sexually abused a girl causing long-standing psychological harm has been jailed for seven years.

Alan Harrison, 65, made immediate admissions after the allegations emerged last October, since when he has remained in custody.

"I just get the devil in me. I've been ashamed all my life," he told police, Durham Crown Court heard.

Harrison, formerly of Hawthorn Close, Kimblesworth, near Chester-le-Street, admitted five specimen counts of indecent assault.

A further three similar matters were left to 'lie on the file'.

Paul Abrahams, prosecuting, said it appeared the victim was given money by Harrison, but that no physical harm was caused.

Jamie Adams, for Harrison, told the court: "He fully accepts the wrong of what he has done, and the psychological harm caused.

"He is a man who stands here in complete ignominy and utter shame in admitting fully to this kind of thing. "His future is a bleak one. He's 65 and not in good health, having uffered cancer of the throat, high blood pressure, a heart and an asthmatic condition."

Mr Adams said Harrison, a grandfather married for 36 years, is now shunned by his family.

"He is completely alone, with nothing to look forward to and no visits from anyone. It's a situation which is unlikely to change."

Jailing Harrison, Recorder Eric Elliott told him: "It's always sad to see someone at the age of 65 with, other than these matters, hitherto good character in a situation you find yourself in.

"As we have heard there was no physical pain inflicted but the psychological pain has been inexorable.

"It's said you now have nothing, well some would say you deserve that."

Harrison must sign the Sex Offenders' Register for life, and was disqualified from ever working with children.

An unlimited Sexual Offences' Prevention Order was also imposed limiting future contact with children.

Speaking afterwatds, PC Rachael Austin, of Durham Police, said: "Alan Harrison has carried out systematic child abuse over an extended period of time, with no thought given to the impact of his actions."

Sex offender re-classified after claims he abused more children

AUBURN — A registered sex offender originally considered to pose a low risk of re-offending was re-classified a level-three sex offender after a Cayuga County judge said new evidence warranted elevating the defendant’s classification.

Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann asked for the elevation Thursday after Chester Morabito was kicked out of sex offender therapy — a violation of his probation — and reportedly told therapists that he had sexually abused as many as six children.

“This issue is about warning the community of his risk to re-offend,” Budelmann sad. “The risk is clear.”

Morabito was originally designated a level-one sex offender and sentenced to probation in 2009 for illegally touching a 9-year-old boy in a doctor’s office while the two were in foster care.

Level-one offenders are considered to pose a low risk of re-offending while level-three offenders are considered to pose ahigh risk.

Level-three sex offenders must register with the state’s sex offender database for life.

Morabito was sentenced to two years in prison in December for violating that probation by getting kicked out of treatment by lying to therapists.

Defense attorney Douglas Bates said Morabito’s therapists should be called into to court to discuss why his client was kicked out of treatment, but Budelmann said that issue was already addressed when Morabito pleaded guilty in December to a violation of probation.

Judge Leone agreed that Morabito’s violation of probation, the fact that he was kicked out of treatment and that he admitted to therapists that he sexually abused more than one child warranted classifying him as a level-three sex offender.

Leone said he has seen Morabito in family court throughout his career as a judge, and knew Morabito was sexually abused as a foster care child himself, but added he had to re-classify Morabito to protect the community.

“I think you are a threat to the community,” Leone said. “It is what it is – I don’t want to sound cold, but you are a threat.”

A sicko who admitted to sexually exploiting children somehow managed to persuade the kids' own mothers to carry out his twisted fantasies, authorities in Detroit said Monday.

Prosecutors said one-time car salesman Steven Demink targeted vulnerable single moms through online dating websites, then through Web chats and emails, claiming he was a psychologist and promising his sex therapy would help their troubled children.

His therapeutic suggestions allegedly included having the women be nude with their children as well as perform sexual acts with them.

In one case, Demink -- who used the alias Dalton St. Clair -- started online chats with an Oregon woman about the sexual
development of her 8-year-old autistic son, The Associated Press reported.

The 41-year-old told the unidentified woman to engage in sexually explicit conduct with her son as a way to teach him about sex, according to the plea agreement. She did as instructed while he watched on a Web camera.

In other cases, the mothers would send Demink photos showing them abusing their children, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Several of those mothers since have been arrested and all of the children -- who ranged in age from 3 to 15 -- were taken into protective custody.

Demink is accused of having communicated with women in several states, including New Hampshire, Florida, Illinois, Florida, Oregon and Georgia.

Demink's alleged scam went on for nearly a year, until a mother of one of the women in Idaho reported their conversations to authorities in December 2009.

"I don't know how he wrangled her in," Eileen Schwab said, according to The AP. "She could have turned off the computer and gone the other way. He must have had a power over her."

Her daughter pleaded guilty last May to lewd conduct with a child under 16 and is currently in prison.

Demink told prosecutors he convinced the women that he was a single parent, just like them and had one 14-year-old girl, court documents said. He met the females through websites such as singleparentmeet.com and used head shots of male models in place of his actual picture.

In truth, Demink worked as a car salesman for several months before spending five years working at a bank, prosecutors said. He later worked for the Immigration and Naturalization Service and spent only two years in college.

Demink pleaded guilty Monday to six charges related to the sexual exploitation of children. He faces 15 years to life in jail.

Seven other charges were dropped as part of his plea deal.

Riley Man Sentenced for Molesting Child


A Valley man is off to prison after pleading guilty to molesting a young girl.


Warren Large pleaded guilty to the charges last month.


He was sentenced per the plea agreement.. 3 years in prison then one year probation.


Large was arrested last September for the allegations that he molested the girl in his home in Riley.


He was scheduled to stand trial this month, but avoided trial by pleading guilty.
