ALEXANDRIA LEIGH WARNER - 5 yo(2010) - Topeka KS/Texhoma OK
A small-town pastor hurried to a local motel with a stack of business cards Monday after learning the body of a 5-year-old was found in one of the rooms over the weekend. The girl's mother had been found dead near railroad tracks about 100 feet from the Home Town Inn.
Rose Irene Warner, 31, of Topeka, Kan., apparently had been hit by a Union Pacific Railroad train, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Jessica Brown said. The body of Alexandria Leigh Warner was found in the room her mother had checked into on Saturday afternoon after their car broke down and a law officer took them to the motel just off U.S. 54.The OSBI is investigating the deaths as suspicious, Brown said. Brown said she didn't know how the child died. The bodies were taken to the state medical examiner's office, which did not release cause of death Monday on either the mother or the child. The Rev. Tommy Hull said he asked motel employees to call him if they ever find out a motel guest is distraught or otherwise in need."She slipped through the cracks,” Hull said. "If we would have known, we would have helped.”Hull said he is part of the Ministerial Alliance, a group of pastors who provide lodging, food and gas to stranded travelers.About 1,500 people live in Texhoma, which is in the Panhandle near the state line with Texas."There is a lot of transit traffic,” Police Chief David Butler said. The motel owner, who asked not to be identified, referred all questions to the OSBI but did say the motel's records reflect Warner paid for the room with cash. The bodies were found about 9 p.m. Saturday."The community is certainly in shock,” Butler said.Texhoma is about 20 miles southwest of Guymon and is part of a busy trucking route, Butler said.

TEXHOMA — A 5-year-old girl whose body
was found in a Texhoma motel room after her mother was fatally hit by a
train most likely died from being smothered and had anti-anxiety drugs
in her system, according to an autopsy report released Tuesday. The body of Alexandria Leigh Warner was found Oct. 30, face up
and covered with a blanket, the report states. The girl would have
turned 6 on Nov. 8.The child and her mother, Rose Irene Warner, 31, of Topeka, Kan.,
had checked into a room at the Home Town Inn after their car broke down
earlier that day. A law officer took them to the motel just off U.S. 54.Diazepam
and a trace of nordiazepam, drugs used primarily to treat anxiety, were
present in the child's blood, the report states. The same drugs were
found in the mother's body. The autopsy report stated the “most likely scenario is asphyxia through smothering.” The
death was ruled a homicide, but the medical examiner said cause of
death is unknown, based on the fact that the asphyxiation finding was
“non-specific.”Rose Warner's autopsy report was released in
January, and the report states the mother had “acceptable levels” of
diazepam and nordiazepam in her system. The mother's death was
listed as multiple blunt force trauma. The manner of death was listed as
unknown because the medical examiner could not rule out either homicide
or suicide, said Cherokee Ballard, state medical examiner's
spokeswoman. Union Pacific spokeswoman Raquel Espinoza-Williams said Warner walked into the path of the train.“The case is still an open case,” said Jessica Brown, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman. “There are items we still need to wrap up.”Kansas records show Rose Warner's
divorce was finalized Oct. 13. Her daughter was withdrawn from school
Sept. 30. Warner was facing a court case involving child support and
other matters pertaining to Alexandria, records show.
