"Infant John" GAZIANO - 18 Months - Madison WI

Prosecutors say a Wisconsin man thought hehad no choice but to leave his 18-month-old child with hisgirlfriend in their motel room, even though he thought she might bedead. James Armour told investigators he had to get to work on timeor risk losing his job.

A criminal complaint filed in Dane County charges the47-year-old Madison man with child neglect. Police say that whilethey were investigating the death of Nicole Gaziano, they found thetoddler dirty and unkempt in the motel room where the three wereliving last August. The complaint does not say how she died.

Armour called the motel's front desk fromwork and asked staff to check on his girlfriend because she wasn'tmoving when he left.
